Grado was tasked with building a one-off pair for its director, Barry Jenkins, and composer, Nicholas Britell. It becomes easier to locate instruments, but it’s also very dependent on your source file; the higher the quality the better. The PS1000e is heavy, much heavier than the other models in the line, and may actually need some separate amplification, which is a surprise considering Grado headphones, in general, don’t.

Better imaging of the space between the instruments paints a clearer picture of your music in their soundstage.The cable is still very thick, but having tried these on, the comfort level isn’t quite as good as some of the Prestige models. they all share essentially the same sound, but the 60e, like the 80e, contains the S-cushions which are much more forgivable on your ears. The PS500e takes the sound of previous headphones and mellows out the highs a bit, contributing to a much warmer overall sound, but has a smaller Soundstage.

The 4-core cable is now housed in a more durable braided jacket and features a super-annealed copper wire for improved audio signal purity. A family favourite, the RS2x has been completely redesigned to bring out the full potential of its maple and hemp wood build. While the bass is toned back more, the mid-range is notably better on the 500e in comparison to something like the RS2e. The first in Grado’s Prestige Series, SR60x is a great all-rounder and the perfect starter headphone. Both sleeve and ring of the housing are made from maple, while a hemp core keeps everything together.
