About this deal

From Mombassa the skin was shipped as freight to London where he was mounted by the taxidermy firm, Rowland Ward Ltd.

If you don’t have the original blue covered book this is a gorgeous story of finding yourself and embracing your own magic and interests even if people laugh at you. Gerald was taken along with the other items too big to move into storage, and transferred with the help of cranes to the site’s natural history building, carefully wrapped to avoid damage. The prize exhibits were swiftly accepted, but only after the preparation of the specimens was financed by Sir Channing Wills of the tobacco family and a benefactor of the RAMM. Rebecca Rabbit thinks she is taller than Gerald because she measures her height to the top of her ears, but Gerald is still taller than Rebecca when he sticks his ears up too. Mummy Giraffe’s exact height is unknown, however she is taller than Mummy Pig who is thought to be approx.

This is a special edition book to celebrate 20 years of this story, but it was the first time my 2 year old heard this story, and even me too! Now in a huge range of formats, this is the perfect way to introduce new fans to the series, or for fans who know and love Giraffes Can’t Dance already.

However, he was renamed Gerald by a former museum director who was said to not be so fond of the Royal Family. Exeter's iconic Gerald the giraffe has led an eventful life which is even more poignant because it is 100 years since he moved to Exeter. If you cannot accept the first available slot, then you'll be offered two alternatives on later dates. Brilliant use of colour, a continual sense of movement and high good humour all help to make this picture book richly enjoyable. After getting introduced to the others, Peppa says that he's taller and older, but Madame Gazelle says that he's the same age like the others (excluding the toddlers).

Gerald, who is 17ft and weighs around 500kg, first took up residence at Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum in 1920, and has been a popular exhibit enjoyed by generations of children.

The story is as good as always, with Gerald the Giraffe struggling to dance but eventually finding his feet - a classic that is standing the test of time. Mr Peel staunchly defended his right to hunt and, 12 months after dispatching Gerald, managed to bag 21 polar bears on a short hunting expedition to the Arctic. A funny, touching and triumphant picture book story about a giraffe who finds his own tune and confidence too, with joyful illustrations from Guy Parker Rees and a foiled cover. However, when he meets a friendly cricket who encourages him to listen for his own music he discovers maybe he can dance after all. I’m relieved that the reclassification only requires a change of label and will have no bearing on his familiar name. The majority of our deliveries are made between 07:00hrs – 18:00hrs Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays).
