About this deal

Eggs – One of the main ingredients of Funyuns is eggs. This is because they have to follow kosher laws and must not contain meat or animal products. As of now, there is no official halal certification for Funyuns. What are the main ingredients used in making Funyuns?

I have seen many Muslims believe that the Funyuns are halal while others do not. For me, the only way to know is to read the ingredients and decide if they’re halal or haram. – Ahmed Sirees The Turbos Flamas are like spiral-shaped Takis, with more of a corn flavor and slightly less of the spice-lime coating. The spiral is a more pleasurable munching experience texturally, and the flavor of corn in these is more prominent. There’s a pretty substantial heat in these that sneaks up behind you, like your jury service date or Tax Day. Once it arrives, your complacency melts away and you’re left dealing with the consequences. 8) Chester’s Flamin’ Hot Puffcorn One of these is monosodium glutamate (MSG), which can sometimes be sourced from pork. Another is natural flavors; the term is vague and could potentially include meat derivatives. But with Flamin’ Hot products being banned in the UK because they contain Yellow 6 and Red 40 — both made from petroleum and linked to hyperactivity in children — it’s safe to say that if you’re indulging in Flamin’ Hot anything, you want to get the good stuff. To help you navigate that, I bought up as many Flamin’ Hot products I could find to tell you which of them are worth eating which aren’t. Like a very sophisticated science experiment. The primary ingredients used to make Funyuns include cornmeal enriched with ferrous sulfate and niacinamide among others. Are Flamin’ Hot Funyuns different from regular ones when considering their halal status?

Baby steps

Maybe. They deliver on the spice, and while I don’t like its potato chip meets corn puff mouthfeel, you just might! 8. Doritos Flamin’ Hot Nacho Limon Dane Rivera Modified Corn Starch, Tapioca Starch, Vegetable Oil (Contains one or more of the Following: Corn, Cottonseed, Soybean, or Sunflower Oil), Onion Powder, Potato Flour, Salt, Sugar, Torula Yeast, Hydrolyzed Torula Yeast Proteins, Hydrolyzed Brewers Yeast Proteins, Monosodium Glutamate (Flavor Enhancer), Garlic Powder, Paprika, Spice Extractive Flavorings, Yellow No. 5, Yellow No. 6, Red No. 3, Blue Number 1. Since Funyuns have many other ingredients other than onions, there is room to believe that Funyuns are halal. Looking at the ingredients on a Funyun wrapper we can find soybean oil, mozzarella cheese powder, and sugar.

So, if you want to lose weight then you should stay away from such foods. The ingredients used in the Funyuns are not good for your health. Is it halal to eat Funyuns on Safar? If any ingredient in this product comes from a pig, it would not be halal (permissible under Islamic law). Thus, the potential presence of questionable ingredients like MSG and natural flavors make it challenging to confirm if Funyuns are halal without further information from Lay’s, the producer. Conclusion: Is eating Funyuns Halal or Haram? Wheat – Funyuns also contain wheat. This is because wheat is sifted to remove all types of grains and harvested according to Islamic halal standards. Some argue that the main ingredient of Funyuns is onions. And because onions are considered haram by some, then Funyuns must be haram. However, this argument is not correct. Onions are impure, but it does not mean that a product or food item made from onions can never be halal. The Qur’an says in chapter 5 verse 102: “But its touch is never forbidden to any of them so long as they use caution. Surely God is All-reverent, All-aware.”The Flamin’ Hot version has more spices and flavorings than regular ones, but none seem to affect its potential halal status. Can I consume funyuns if I am strictly following a Halal diet? At this point, there seems to be nary a Frito-Lay brand that hasn’t been touched by the Flamin’ Hot IP, and given that Frito-Lay is a subsidiary of PepsiCo, the possibilities are basically endless. Is Flamin’ Hot Gatorade in our future? Flamin’ Hot Quaker Oats? Probably, because the popularity of Flamin’ Hot exists at the intersection of consumers’ love for spicy foods and novelty, and a corporation’s love for an easy way to pretend it’s making something “new.” Don’t be surprised if everything becomes Flamin’ Hotted. The latest offering. Jaya Saxena Now don’t get me wrong, spicy food is great. I put hot sauce on my eggs, extra cayenne and jalapeño brine in my chili, I put jalapeños in pretty much any dish they’re appropriate, get the spicy wings and and red pepper flakes at pizza places, and consume probably an inordinate amount of spicy ramen. I’m no wuss. I even admittedly like the Flaming Hot Lay’s potato chips, but that’s cause they still have to potato chip flavor to them.

Not even a little bit. Jayson Tatum’s mom wouldn’t even buy these. 14. Ruffles Flamin’ Hot Baked Dane Rivera But that would be a mistake, because these have it all: heat, texture, crunch and flavor. As well as an inspiring origin story. Ricardo Montañez, who was working at Frito-Lay as a janitor, approached the CEO with an idea — what if you made spicy Cheetos? Basing it on the elote model of corn, cheese, chili and lime, Montañez began testing the product in stores in East L.A and soon realized he had a hit on his hands. Years and many millions in sales later, Flamin’ Hot products are everywhere and Montañez is a vice president at the company. That’s pretty cool, right? 5) Takis Fuego (tie) Martina Ibanez-Baldor and Kent Nishimura / For The Times) 25) El Sabroso Blazin’ Hot Cheese Crunchies If you prefer a triangle of tortilla to the curly corn of Cheetos, then these are the preferable option over the Flamin’ Hot Limón Cheetos. The flavors are almost the same—bright, sour, salty, spicy—but the Flamin’ Hot Limon Doritos certainly taste the slightest bit cheesier and have the appealing snap of a typical tortilla chip. This signifies that if a person uses caution when eating a substance, then he or she can eat the item. Onions are halal as long as the person uses caution while eating it.Alas… I’m just not convinced about this form factor — which is halfway between a chip and a corn puff. They’re a little too soft for my linking and dissolve in the mouth in a mushy way. Fun fact: There’s a market, apparently, for Cheetos that are shaped like things. Take this one, which is shaped like Super Mario, claims the buyer. Or this one, which someone thinks resembles the late gorilla Harambe. The point is, there are some dumb people out there. If you love Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, give the Puffs a try. They’re better! 4. Munchies Flamin’ Hot Dane Rivera I thought Funyuns were haraam. They are so addictive and they taste delicious. Amazingly, a potato chip can be compared to the Egyptian Funyun. – Samih

However, the recipe also contains some questionable ingredients that might raise eyebrows. Potential Pork-Derived Components They’re also incredibly satisfying — you can have six or seven puffs and satiate your Flamin’ Hot cravings easily. These might as well have been regular Lay’s that were sneakily sprinkled with red dye or paprika. The heat level is so low that one taster said, “they just taste like normal Lay’s with a tiny bit of spice.” The key word here is tiny; if you’re obsessed with that oily, potato-flavor that original Lay’s has and want the most miniscule amount of heat, these are for you. You would think that something with the word 'cool' in its name would imply that this chip actually has a cooling effect, but you'd be wrong. The Flamin' Hot Cool Ranch is one of the newest, spiciest iterations in the Flamin' Hot canon. These dusted tortilla triangles actually gave me a chili-induced coughing fit, and yet I couldn't stop reaching for more. They are genuinely spicy, but the Cool Ranch dust provides a delightful tang that works well with the heat. It's wonderful not having to decide between two flavors of chips I adore now—I can have it all in a single bag. Cheetos Flamin’ Hot Limon was definitely a response to the rising popularity of Fuego Takis. Overall, I think the balance of heat and lime works better here, the lime flavoring isn’t quite as sour, though that may be because it’s being balanced by powdered cheddar. But Cheetos Flamin’ Hot Limon isn’t just better than Takis Fuego, it’s better than every genuine Flamin’ Hot product on the market. On the nose, the Limon flavor has a zesty spiced aroma that far surpasses the smell offered by every other flavor in the Flamin’ Hot line — it’s actually appetizing, which can’t be said for most of these chips. With the Flamin’ Hot Puffcorn, it’s easy to see where the obsession comes from. Puffcorn, which, save for its uneven, round-ish shape, is not at all like popcorn, texturewise falls somewhere between a Cheeto puff and a marshmallow. It’s oddly addicting. The corn puffs melt in your mouth practically without chewing. They’re not very fiery, but the eating experience is akin to something like eating spicy cereal. The dark horse of the Flamin’ Hot world. 9) Xxtra Flamin’ Hot Cheetos But he does. And they aren’t very good. There’s a mild heat to these, and a spice mixture that tastes unpleasantly of powdered tomatoes. Maybe they like these in northeast England? But we’ve got better options stateside. 28) Trader Joe’s Ghost Pepper Potato Chips As for the chips — they taste, expectedly and pleasingly, like Tapatío. Not too much, not too little, and they’re not particularly spicy. They’re good eating, but if you’re looking for a bag full of pain, these don’t deliver. 12) Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Limón These don’t taste bad, especially if you like the assertively corn-forward taste of a regular Frito, but I’m not really sure what to make of them. They are light on heat, leading to what ultimately seems like a weakened barbecue chip — they’re less “Flamin’ Hot” than “oddly underseasoned.” Like the final “Game of Thrones” season, Flamin’ Hot Fritos are coasting on reputation, and seem a little meandering and pointless. 21) Flamin’ Hot Lays
