About this deal

It is not difficult to make edible eyeballs themselves, and the cubs can also help make their own eyes for the cakes if they like. It’s only the imagination that sets the limit on what they should look like. Egg white – I like to use pasteurized because it is easy and one is not left with a lot of egg yolks. But you can use fresh eggs and divide them into yolks and whites. Start out by whisking together the sugar, starch, water and extracts (if using). Mix together into a smooth icing. You first make a royal icing by whisking egg white and icing sugar really well with a hand mixer. It should be whipped until they form soft peaks and become a little chewy. Then you can adjust the consistency with a little water so that it becomes so soft that it can be piped out and make a smooth hemisphere without making peaks on the surface.

Homemade Candy Eyeballs - The Frozen Biscuit

Powder Sugar (Icing Sugar)– This makes up the bulk of the google eyes. If your sugar is lumpy, sift out the lumps before mixing to ensure you end up with a smooth icing. The eyes are made with royal icing. It dries hard and is perfect for making candy eyeballs. I like using a store bought royal icing mix . You just add water. But it is also easy to make yourself. Ingredients Once done – leave your googly eyes out to dry (about 24 hours). You can leave them in the fridge or at room temperature. The longer they are left out the harder they will get. I recommend drizzling the caramel in some fun swirls that are evenly distributed throughout the chocolate. To Freeze: Place pieces of Halloween candy bark in a plastic freezer bag and place it in the freezer. It will last a long time; maybe even until next Halloween!

📖 Recipe

The eyes can be dried at room temperature for 24 hours or in the oven at low temperature in an hour or so. This project was far easier than I thought possible. Never one to do things by halves, I filled three trays with the eyes, and now I have literally hundreds of edible icing eyes, which should keep me going for a while! Do watch out for their appearance in some of my Halloween projects this month!

After they fully set, gently remove the eyes from the parchment paper and transfer to an airtight container or bag until you’re ready to use them.Start by lining a couple of baking trays with greaseproof paper. To keep mine from moving around during such a delicate task, I secured the paper to the trays with a bit of sellotape.

Vanilla or Almond Extract (optional)– These are simply optional flavours to make the eyes taste a little more interesting. I am of the belief that that if you want to do one simple thing to make food fun and to make the recipient smile, that one thing is to add eyes. Eyes in unexpected places are funny, they just are! At this time of year eyes or eyeballs can also add a creepy element to Halloween food. Over the last few weeks I have posted several new edible eyeball ideas here on the Eats Amazing blog - as I said before, I started brainstorming and couldn't stop! In today's post I'm going to gather them all up in one place, and add a few final eye themed food ideas for good measure. Once you have piped out as many eyes as you'd like, or your hand aches too much to hold the bottle any more, put the trays somewhere safe to dry. I left mine overnight, and they were dried out nicely ready for the next step the next morning. Start by making the Royal Icing. If you have royal icing mix, use 1 Tbsp water for every 1/2 C of royal icing mix. If you are making it from scratch, follow these instructions.Sweet (Candy) Eyes - At this time of year it's easy to find fun eyeball shaped sweets - I found the jelly eyes below in our pound shop, and I've also seen lots of chocolate eyeballs around. With a bit of imagination you can find eyes in other sweets too, from fried eggs, dolly mixtures and smarties to chocolate buttons and flying saucers - anything round would work! To make, take a mini marshmallow, cut in half, and dot each half with your edible marker pen. That's it, instant edible eyes! Mozzarella Pearl Eyeballs - Mozzarella pearls are available in most large supermarkets, and their ready-made ball shape makes them the perfect instant edible eyeball! Dot with edible marker or add a tiny circle of cucumber skin to turn them into eyeballs. Add to savoury dishes such as soup or pasta or serve up in a bowl along with cherry tomatoes to make an instant and gory caprese salad for a Halloween party. For details of my eyeball soup below see the original blog post here, and for the eyeball pasta see my original blog post here.
