About this deal

PowerForAll has many advantages not least the fact that once you have a tool with a few batteries then there is no need to buy the more expensive versions with battery & charger, you can just go ahead & buy the much cheaper no battery versions! The length of time the drip irrigation needs to run depends in part on the type of drippers used. At the moment I am using drippers that allow me to manually control the amount of water flowing through each dripper, by screwing or unscrewing the dripper head. You probably don’t want to be setting up your polytunnel watering system from scratch every year, so put the foundations in place which you can modify each season, and throughout the season as plants change. Typically this involves distribution pipes, from which you take off the type of watering you need. 13mm LDPE hose is what we recommend for common small to medium sized domestic polytunnels; you get enough water flow through the pipes and they are not too cumbersome to manage. A range of outlets / emitters

This range of submersible pumps from Umbra Pompeare ideally suited for application in sumps & bilges, industry, leisure, processing, transfer and filling. These pumps are solely battery operated. The challenge with this approach is that it creates a big demand for watering. Pots dry out faster than plants grown in the ground, and the crops I grow all mature in summer when the heat is highest. The combination of big plants growing in containers during the hottest days of the year means that watering may be needed twice daily. Infrequent and inconsistent watering at worst can kill the plant, but can also spoil the crop. The plants may set much less fruit, and the fruit they do produce may split or mold, or not swell to full size.

… or build your own using the WaterMate core pack and extras

Gardener’s gloves will inevitably get muddy, dirty, and fall apart. That is the life of a gardener’s glove.

There are two types of power that are used for water pumps: direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC). Lots of plants need tying up at the allotment. Twine is useful to mark seed rows after sowing and prior to germination. Wigwams made from branches or canes would not be possible without garden twine to hold them together. Tomato plants would fall over without being supported. The challenge with using a water pump is that they need electricity to work, and my allotment does not provide electricity to plots. I found searching for solar power solutions for camping and caravans helpful, as many people use and store solar energy to provide power for kettles, televisions, music, and navigation systems. They couldn’t be easier to use, simply connect to a car or other large battery via the clips. The duty cycle is approximately 20 minutes long and they cannot be run for extended periods of time.Seep irrigation uses buried lengths of hose and is highly efficient as water does not ‘run off’ the surface away from plants, and less will be lost to evaporation. This is ideal for permanent beds with perennial plants, including watering fruit bushes and small fruit trees. Tip 7 - Less But Lots! Root crops Carrots and parsnips will split if watered irregularly, water before dry conditions develop. So remember PowerForAll signifies complete battery compatibility throughout the range. There is however, one caveat to this, some of the very first older chargers will not charge the very latest batteries & a battery charger upgrade will be required if you have a first generation charger. All batteries fit all tools however. The good thing about water butt pumps is that they move water with a good amount of pressure. This is ideal for drip irrigation systems, as it provides more consistent water flow through drippers. If the water pressure is too low, it is common for the drippers nearest the water source to work, and those further away to give out less water, or even no water at all. Leaving me time to install the remaining hundreds of meters of hose and emitters. Then set up enough barrels or IBC tanks to really be able to hold a decent reservoir of water.
