About this deal

The nutriment that sustains this new hope and makes it grow strong is the Word of God, especially the promises.

That may or may not be the most accurate translation. The ESV prefers “Be fervent in spirit,” which is different but not incompatible with the RSV. “Be aglow with the Spirit” is certainly a biblical thought. “Those who look to him are radiant” (Psalm 34:5). Strong's 2204: (lit: I boil, am boiling), I burn (in spirit), am fervent. A primary verb; to be hot, i.e. be fervid. Therefore: Paul apparently uses this expression to link what he discussed in the preceding part of his letter with what he is about to say. In effect, he is saying: “In view of what I just explained to you, I appeal to you to do what I will tell you next.” Paul had discussed the opportunity open to both Jews and Gentiles to be declared righteous before God by faith, not by works, and to be corulers with Christ. ( Ro 1:16; 3:20-24; 11:13-36) Beginning in chapter 12, Paul urges Christians to be thankful and to demonstrate their faith and gratitude by obeying God and by living a life of self-sacrifice.

Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in His holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it." a) To what extent was a witness given to the honor of Jehovah’s name in 1953 by means of distribution of books and booklets, subscriptions obtained and individual copies of magazines placed? Verse 5 says that underneath our hope, giving it an unshakable foundation, is the love of God. And the work of the Holy Spirit is to pour this love into our hearts, to make us see it and grasp it and cherish it. If you have not yet been given the baptism (empowering) of the Holy Spirit, don't wait another moment. Ask another Christian to pray for you to receive it or go directly to Jesus yourself. Confess any sins, particularly involvement in false religions, cults or the occult, ask Jesus' forgiveness and then ask Him to baptize you in His Holy Spirit. He is anxious to give you this gift, and when you receive it, you will find yourself filled with a new love for your Savior as well as experience His cleansing and His power. JEHOVAH appreciates willing sacrifices made by his servants to express their love for him and their submission to his will. In ancient times, he accepted various animal sacrifices and other offerings. These were made according to the Mosaic Law by Israelites seeking to obtain forgiveness for sins and to express thanksgiving. In the Christian congregation, Jehovah does not require us to offer such formal, material sacrifices. However, in chapter 12 of his letter to Christians in Rome, the apostle Paul shows that we are still expected to offer sacrifices. Let us see how. The Bible describes the Christian's growth and development in much the same way as apples are grown and harvested. As believers, we are "planted" when we are born again into a relationship with Jesus. The Holy Spirit then lovingly nourishes and prunes us so that our lives "grow" the character traits of Christ. Scripture calls these traits the fruit of the Spirit and tells us that spiritual fruitfulness is the Lord's goal for all believers. To the Church in Laodicea: "Because you are lukewarm--neither hot nor cold--I am about to spit you out of my mouth." Transform our lives by Your Spirit. As we are transformed, bring a reformation of righteousness in our nations. Raise up godly people as influencers in every sphere of influence in our culture.
