Verse 5 says that underneath our hope, giving it an unshakable foundation, is the love of God. And the work of the Holy Spirit is to pour this love into our hearts, to make us see it and grasp it and cherish it. If you have not yet been given the baptism (empowering) of the Holy Spirit, don't wait another moment. Ask another Christian to pray for you to receive it or go directly to Jesus yourself. Confess any sins, particularly involvement in false religions, cults or the occult, ask Jesus' forgiveness and then ask Him to baptize you in His Holy Spirit. He is anxious to give you this gift, and when you receive it, you will find yourself filled with a new love for your Savior as well as experience His cleansing and His power. JEHOVAH appreciates willing sacrifices made by his servants to express their love for him and their submission to his will. In ancient times, he accepted various animal sacrifices and other offerings. These were made according to the Mosaic Law by Israelites seeking to obtain forgiveness for sins and to express thanksgiving. As believers, we are "planted" when we are born again into a relationship with Jesus. The Holy Spirit then lovingly nourishes and prunes us so that our lives "grow" the character traits of Christ.
