About this deal

A Shadow in Ember is set many years before Blood and Ash. The land of Lasania is dying; the blight as it has been called, encroaches on the land a little more everyday. Seraphina has a chance to remedy that. She was promised to the primal of death a decade before her birth, to be his consort. Most think that is all there is to her destiny, but she knows her job is to make him fall in love with her and when he is weakened she must kill him. That is the only way to save her home. It is revealed by the Arae in the face of Holland that Seraphena is the reincarnation of Sotoria. [ citation needed] Aún así como os digo, la autora crea unos finales épicos y con muchas ganas de seguir leyendo sus historias, así que estoy deseando que salga el siguiente.

I liked the narration for the original series but I felt like she made some weird choices for voices in this book and every time she said the word “eather” I wanted to throw my phone at a wall. I don’t remember it being that irritating in the other books but maybe it just didn’t make that many appearances before. Sera is pretty easy to like. She is headstrong and tries to help those around her. She is a fighter for the people and there are some mysteries to be solved. Like why is the blight eating the land and why are some of the gods randomly killing people in Lasania. Sera meets Nyktos on a night she sees the horrific deaths of a family. He didn’t know what he was getting into when he stopped her from trying to confront two gods. She is a tempersome creature who likes to fight with him more than anything else. I did like how the heat between them was almost instantaneous as they bantered with each other. I’ll give this review a 4 stars for trying, but a 2 overall. I’m deeply disappointed in Shadow of an Ember. Story was extremely hard to follow, the inner monologue was draining, and the temper tantrum’s Sera threw were exhausting. When the stars fall from the night, the great mountains crumble into the seas, and old bones raise their swords beside the gods, the false one will be stripped from glory until two born of the same misdeeds, born of the same great and Primal power in the mortal realm. A first daughter, with blood full of fire, fated for the once-promised King. And the second daughter, with blood full of ash and ice, the other half of the future King. Together, they will remake the realms as they usher in the end. never have i ever hated a character more than i hate kolis, i hope he rots in the darkest bits of the abyss😍, can't wait to see him entombed and please jennifer lemme see that bitch veses dead or else we're going to have beef together🤩Both of her parents were aware of the fate that awaited Seraphena, and after her father died by suicide when she was too young to remember him, Sera's mother hid her away. Besides her immediate family and very few others, no one knew her true identity. She was raised in secret and trained by Sir Holland to become an assassin, as her mother and others believed that the only way to stop the rots progression would be to kill the Primal of Death. Thus, Sera was trained to be able to fight and seduce him, as the only true weakness to a Primal is falling in love. Now even tho i hate you for putting me through this hellish waiting cycle again, you 𝐉𝐋𝐀 fu#king earned every praise you received and will continue to receive in the future. So a big ass thank you for this gift of a series.

I really felt for Sera, how hard is it to know that you will have to kill someone, even more so if you have to sacrifice someone you are growing to love. Nyktos/Ash seems like a good guy in the grand scheme of things. He is a god capable of terrible things but he is also much more kind than most of the gods. He still has some humanity left in him which makes Sera’s task all the more troubling. I spent the entire book wondering if she could ever really go through with it. Even though I was a little annoyed near the end by Sera’s unending inner talks about her feelings for Nyktos, I still like her as the main character. She is still strong and determined to do whatever it takes to help the mortal realm, and also the Shadowlands because she came to care for the people she met there. The author did a splendid job with her, and I will be happy to read another book with her as the main character, as long as the long inner monologues are toned down a bit. But in terms of which series is faring better, I definitely think Flesh and Fire is winning readers over Blood and Ash. I think it would have been better if the two series were seperate and not interconnected.La narrativa de la autora es muy buena, si que tengo que decir que en ocasiones es lenta, la trama avanza poco a poco, pero que en mi caso no lo he sentido porque todo me interesaba. Update: JLa answered a bunch of questions for the book club (FB JLA book club) and some theories must be wrong with the answers we got 😬 We also now know that book 4 will not the last book in the Flesh and Fire series and despite the fact we will have to deal with another cliffhanger I am super happy these two get more books. The battles were epic and I had a few nail-biting moments, but the ending was the cherry on the cake and now with all the big revelations, I’m even more excited for the next chapter in this series and uncover more of the mystery behind each character and their role in this spectacular world. Sera began as a great MC nevertheless she undergoes zero change. Her development all through the book is actually non current. I imagine I like Poppy extra as a result of the proven fact that we are able to see her substantial development with the collection. For Sera she is much less naive so I feel she would not have as a lot to study? However both means the ‘spin’ at the finish regarding who she truly is was so silly in addition to was actually meaningless like can we cease. It is set years before the events in From Blood and Ash making it the prequel to that series. Should I read a Shadow in the Ember before or after reading the Blood and Ash novels?

The characters- I loved Sera and Nyktos in the first book. They made me forget all about my dislike for Poppy and Casteel after the third book. However, much like FBAA, the characters went downhill in this installment. Sera fell into the same trap as Poppy did. They are dumb and they do dumb things, but everyone around them thinks they're brave. JLA's big weakness is writing realistic badass female characters and Sera is a carbon copy of Poppy in almost every way, right down to her "stabby" behavior and her ridiculous amounts of questions (more on that later). As for Nyktos, I still enjoy him. He's fine, but he's the book boyfriend that I needed him to be. He's just meh. And that's sad because there's so much potential.

After four Blood and Ash series books and one Flesh and Fire series book it was bound to happen…a book has finally overtaken A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire as my all time favorite and it is A Light in the Flame!! Poppy hears and sees Sera a few more times and believes what she had told her while in the tombs is the answer to everything. It is revealed in The War of Two Queens that Seraphena tells Poppy her name. His stolen power. It was mine. His pain. It would be mine. Vengeance. Retribution. Blood. Mine. All of it would be mine. i’m loving all the people saying they won’t read JLA books again after TWOTQ because it means i can continue to gatekeep this masterpiece of a series 🫂

Mis ratos de lectura con este libro han sido maravillosos, no puedo nada más que proclamar que adoro a estos personajes, para mí es la mejor pareja que he leído en un libro, así que imaginad mi pasión por este obra. Which is one of the reasons I find most men to be easily offended. But you’re not like most men, are you?”

please, when sera realized she was in love with nyk, i was in tears 😭 and oh my god when he sensed her love but didn’t know what it meant— And to think all the theories as to why he was not listed in the Primal list was because he was a traitor and was suspicious. Nope. He was loyal and amazing, and I hate that his end was so brutal. That Sera could not save him, and we have to forever remember that all he wanted was to protect both of them and he died doing it. Ezmeria or Ezra is Seraphena’s step-sister and daughter to King Ernald. She is kind and compassionate. She treats Seraphena like a true sister, unlike her brother Tavius. Eythos During all this Sera comes to finally realize her feelings towards Ash. She’s in love with him and it scares her, and of course he notices a sweet taste in her emotions one of chocolate and strawberries (which we see Poppy refer to love as this taste as well throughout FBAA) but Ash cannot understand what that emotion is connected to as he has never felt it. In my eyes Ash and Sera are superior. Not only to Poppy and Cas but to a lot of fantasy book couples. They have something that just makes them utter perfection and I cannot get enough of their story, their journey, and their eventual love.
