Battery Life: It is important to consider a device’s expected battery life, most pod system devices have internal batteries that cannot be replaced but offer recharging capabilities until the end of their lifespan. Pod systems have smaller, less powerful batteries as they don't need to be as powerful as box mod kits to work with stronger nicotine salts and 50/50 vape juice blends. Each UK Smok Nord 4 kit comes with two styles of pods and coils (RPM and RPM2) to support them. This gives you the opportunity to experience MTL and DTL vaping straight out of the box. With the airflow dials both closed I got a very, very loose MTL draw if you can even call it MTL. It’s more a restricted direct lung draw verging on loose MTL. Any way you put it, this is not the true MTL vape I was looking for when Smok designated this as a MTL coil. This is a decent coil, but not one that hardcore MTL vapers will enjoy. The Nord 4 isn’t a complicated device at all. It’s very easy to use because there aren’t any modes other than the default wattage mode and there are very few button combinations. To turn it on or off, press the fire button five times. The Smok Nord 4 kit is a compact and versatile kit that can be used by vapers of all experience levels.

Pull out the rubber plug to reveal the filling port and insert the tip of your e-liquid bottle into the opening and fill. SMOK has just released the fourth editions of the classic Nord and Novo pod vape duo. I don’t think they could have possibly stuffed any more features into these devices. Both utilize replaceable coil heads, an LED display, adjustable airflow, and USB-C passthrough charging. Now let’s talk about leaking. The RPM coil didn’t leak at all on me. There was a little condensation under the pod but no large amounts of ejuice. The RPM 2 coil leaked pretty heavily though and I had to make sure to remove the pod and clean it out at least once a day, just to be sure that it didn’t leak down into the internals. If you are using a new coil for the first time, leave for 3-5 minutes after filling and before vaping, this allows for the e-liquid to reach the coil so that the coil does not burn. I used 70VG, regular nicotine ejuices with both of these coils. The RPM coil is recommended at 25W and that’s actually where it performs the best. I liked it the most right at 25W and didn’t feel the need to push up the wattage any higher. Flavor is good and vapor production is actually pretty decent. It produces warm vapor, not hot, and I found it nice to vape on with a 6mg ejuice.

Verdict

RPM Quartz 1.2 Ohm: Fast heat up time and purer flavour - 11-15W (12W best, with up to 18mg/ml vape juice) Smok Nord 4 Specification Nord 4: The Nord 4 vape kit houses a 2000mAh battery which will roughly last for a day and a half of moderate vaping use before needing recharging. A great new feature of the NORD 4 is airflow control on both sides of the device. Easily select your desired airflow by turning the airflow ring, either using your fingernail or by pressing the ring with a finger and turning it that way. BUT, the SMOK Nord 4 is adjustable up to 80w, so obviously if you’re vaping at higher wattages you’re going to burn through the battery capacity a lot faster.

Flavor output here is rather good and a lot of the notes come through in my ejuices but not all of them. This is a slightly above average coil for flavor but not an incredible coil by any means.

Battery life and charging

I’d been rotating the Caliburn, KOKO and SMOK Nfix for the past year, which are all MTL style pod systems. Eager to try the heavy DTL vaping set-up on the SMOK Nord 4, I opted for the RPM 2 0.16ohm pod/coil first. Nord 4:The Nord 4 also offers two different 2ml pod options, but the difference with these is that they are only compatible with the SMOK RPM and RPM2 coils. Nord 2:The Nord 2 device has a 1500mAh battery which can easily last for a full day of moderate vaping. The Nord 4 is the first in the series to feature adjustable airflow via a rotating ring, this allows the user to adjust the airflow to suit your preferred vape style. This is a significant step forward. If it goes at the same pace, probably by version 6 or 7 Nord will be as bulky as all the other vape box mods. It seems like with Nord 4, Smok is appealing to the cloud chasers much more than MTL vapers. I hope it’s not the case.
