Begin your tour of the city by visiting the Doge’s Palace, climbing the Campanile, visiting St. Mark’s Basilica, and crossing the famous Rialto Bridge. The Rialto Bridge is one of Venice’s most iconic landmarks, a grand work of architecture and engineering supported by 6,000 wooden piles. It’s 48 meters long and 22 meters wide. The original structure was made of wood in the late Middle Ages, but the current stone bridge was designed by Antonio Da Ponte in the late 1500s. The movie features three segments, each starring the iconic Neapolitan actress Sophia Loren and her co-star Marcello Mastroianni. Oh I do love Irish Womens Fiction authors, and I think Catherine Mangan could be one to watch as she develops. What I disliked was the apparent normalisation of Niamh & Grace’s fairly significant alcohol dependence without it ever being mentioned as an issue. They appear to each drink a bottle of wine a night ordinarily - and much more than this every night on holiday, drinking themselves stupid, ruing their hangovers in the morning, then starting over again at lunch. Emily is almost as bad. Then there’s Niamh’s obsession with her weight - observing/complaining about being too heavy then stuffing her face with pasta at every opportunity. Eat what you want, or watch your diet, but don’t over-indulge nonstop then whine about the consequences…
