I was completely blown away with this book. If you haven’t read Our Thing you need to read it first. Because this is the second book of Cassidy and Max’s story. I want him as mine. There’s vulnerable Xander (Nicci Harris please tell me we get a Xander book!!) Then you’ve got smooth and charming Clay, and then there’s Bronson. An absolute beast with a heart that’s probably going to break mine. Even Butch made me a gooey mess with his roundabout way of protecting his boys. The writing is exceptional and the editing and grammar are on point. There is nothing to distract from the amazing story line the author unfolds as the book goes on. Bronson Butcher, the brother we’ve all been waiting for, DID NOT disappoint! I loved this character from the minute he was introduced in Max & Cassidy’s duet. Then add in how he’s been pining over a woman since he was 14, and I was already sold.

We have Cassidy, an 18 year old ballerina who lives, breath, and sleeps dance. But has had a crush on Max Butcher since he saved her brother when they were children. She only finally gets close to him on her 18th birthday due to her friend hanging out with him. So we go on an emotionally roller coaster of what they will lead to or if it will be anything at all. The end of this book made it for me. Ugh. It was so good. I cried. CRIED. THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE LAST 20% the H is a 24 yr old bad boy mafia dude, he’s an elusive manwhore when he meets the h, commitment-phobic, but very protective and jealous/possessive of the h and surprisingly romantic - he’s got a vulgar mouth 😅Then there's the business side, Bronson having to deal with enemies and protecting his family which will leave you on the edge of your seat. It’s been a day since I finished this book and I am still not okay. This second chance romance does end happily it’s just a really hard fought one and my heart literally breaks thinking about all the hurt that the MMC Bronson endures. Ch30 of book1 Our thing,deserves special mention because until then the story was oscillating between romance and the sneak peeks of mafia in the District and what secrets lay therein..but this chapter...this chapter explained "A thief is a criminal until he's stealing to feed his kin. A neglectful mother is a bad mother until she is working two jobs to give her children the best opportunities. A gun is terrifying until it's what's keeping you safe, and then you're terrified without it." which Cassidy thinks in a chapter long before this one...The way she was frozen but later stood up for herself and like desperate times call for desperate measures?,she just did it!I loved her more in this chapter. Cassidy goes on a double date as a favour to her best friend Toni, she ends up hitting it off with the guy and they start making out. Only someone is watching them and isn’t happy about what is happening!! I relish the elevated romance within The Duet as the lines between love, desire, and obsession begin to blur creating an eruption of forbidden passion and ecstasy. Max and Cassidy's relationship is the type of love story that you love to hate, innately they know its bad for them, but like a slut for punishment, they pursue it anyway because in the immortal words of Cassidy, "avoiding conflict to prevent a battle, can often start a war on your heart."

This book was gritty, raw & emotional . The characters are both beautifully broken & still very much in love with each other when they end up in each others lives after 10 years has passed. The chemistry between the two is palpable. They literally complete each other-2 halves of a whole. This group is a safe environment, where readers c Welcome to Some Like It Hot!, a group for those of us who love to read and write romantic fiction. When she doesn’t push away but instead brings her dainty hands up to my chest, stroking the spot where my heart shudders like a bird in a cage, I groan through the sensation her affection gives me. » Nicci is a master at weaving words & pulling you into the story making you feel as though you’re experiencing everything along side the characters. Does Cassidy finally get her ballet dreams of dancing around the world? Will she get to be with Max or is he just too far out of her world?So, even as I stand in the shadows with him, as people get hurt... as people die… I refuse to let him believe he's nothing more than a piece in his Family's corrupt empire.
