We mounted a Panasonic GH5S for the purposes of this review – and, right now, this camera and the original GH5 are the most closely compatible with the Ronin-S. With the included MCC cable, you canuse the Ronin-S’s on-board controls to take photos, start/stop video recording and pull manual focus (depending on the lens). For users of the Canon 5D Mark III, 5D Mark IV and 6D Mark II, Nikon D850, and Sony A7S II and Sony A6300, only stop/start recording and photo capture is supported – and for the Sony cameras that requires an awkward IR blaster setup. Other cameras aren’t officially supported at all, but it does seem like firmware updates will increase the list before long. Watch this space. Stiffness - Motor stiffness allows you to choose the power supplied by each motor for balance and weight. You should ensure extra margin is left for each setting for a guaranteed stability.

The presets also let you choose whether an axis will respond to you pushing the camera around, so that you can physically over-ride the motors. Operating the Ronin-S Strength - DJI recommend leaving this setting as the default. The strength setting allows you to minimize attitude error by increasing the strength. Once you've set up the physical gimbal, you will have to activate your Ronin-S. Launch the Ronin app and log into your DJI account. Next, power on the gimbal by tapping then holding the power button.

Ronin-S Setup

The Ronin-S features a built-in 2400 mAh battery within its grip. The battery is capable of powering the Ronin for up to 12 hours if properly utilised. In General, you can choose between handheld and car mount, change the user profile and pause the motors. If you are using a DSLR camera for your projects and have more extensive lens setups and more ambitious shooting environments, the Ronin-S is an excellent choice for you.
