About this deal

The author throws extra bits of spiky suspense – a carriage falls into a river, political rivalries are hatched – because the book needs a bit of perky action due to the heaviness of its ridiculous plot. I started this one in audio, and while the narrator seemed okay, she was a bit quiet and I found her cadence distracting for some reason, so I switched to the ebook.

Ideally, she hopes all of her sisters find love matches as she has given up that hope sitting on the shelf at 23 years old. I appreciated that the couple learned to adapt their sex life to Alexander’s disability; it’s rare to read about characters trying out different positions until they find what works. We see him use a wheelchair in this book, and how he pushes himself to not need it (and often ends up over exerting himself and be forced back into using it), and he lives with chronic pain. Kitty is a world-weary twenty-three, and with her hopes for a husband and children fading, she and her friends decide to be “sinful. The first part of the book was better than the dragging I’m a cripple and therefore not good enough for you second half that went a bit long for me. And the epilogue was just SO PERFECT - you just know Kitty and Alexander are going to be happy for the rest of their beautiful lives. My Darling Duke was the second book that I read by Stacy Reid, and while I liked My Wicked Marquess more, I liked this a lot. The Duke keeps bemoaning secretly that he has nothing to offer her because of his impotence, even though Kitty asks him all the time if he's going to marry her.

They set this aside because, eh, screw it, they’re into each other and they have a similar sense of humor and adventure. Alexander was told by the doctors he has employed that he would never walk again, but he has managed to do just that for a few hours each day, not without pain, but the feeling of some normalcy is well worth the effort to him. I love a brazen fake relationship trope, and have to give props to a Regency where a doctor prescribes masturbation to the hero as a treatment for inflammation. I'd give it a spicy rating of 3 out of 5 - a few choicr but well written scenes, the plot is the real draw here.I couldn't rate the story as couldn't endure the narrator that far, however the author should have some say over its performance if this is how she perceived it I cannot think I would be a ble to endure other books. She'll impress the ton by simply announcing she is engaged to the reclusive and mysterious Duke of Thornton, Alexander Masters, and secure strong matches for her sisters.
