About this deal

His weekly articles in the Mirror were not just a snap shot of angling but encompassed the passion, the excitement and the thrill of angling and the countryside. He co-founded the Angling Times in 1953, was founder editor of Creel magazine in 1963, and wrote over 20 books. The pre-loved books are carefully cleaned and maintained offering a wide variety of general and specialist titles from children's to adults.I'm sure that at the time (1949), a book of a hundred pages was a reasonable offering, but to simply reprint that when all of the other material is presumably preserved (since it was published in the Mirror from 1947 to 1949 and onwards and the Mirror is preserved) seems wasteful.

The Crabtree and the Mr Cherry series of books inspired my childhood , Yes the Royalty is still there and as popular as ever I was in Christchurch at easter and enjoyed a walk along it and gazed longingly at the parlour pool, I was also able to fritter some hard earned away in Davis fishing tackle which is a few hundred yards away. The watercolours are so evocative of the British countryside and its wildlife and delight fishermen and non fishermen alike.Crabtree explains what cast to use, but what I'm wondering is why was that casting technique advantageous?

Using this method it's possible to cast plenty far enough to catch fish on medium size rivers like the Itchen or Test. This edition, a facsimile of the first edition, is published in the original paper and cloth-spine binding. Written and illustrated by Bernard Venables, this book has remained a classic since it was first published half a century ago. I would much rather watch a float and the nature than sit in a bivy reading a book and waiting for a carp run.Of course, I've enjoyed reading this much more than Henry has, part of that is probably that we are still stating his age in months instead of years, but hey it's good to start reading to them at the earliest age, so may as well read something about fishing right? I bought this for my fishing mad 7 year old it is in a format he will read and enjoy and is still as relivent at getting the basics across as it ever was. I have heard it said, not entirely tongue in cheek, that Mr Crabtree isn't old hat, he's pretty up to date. I acquired a copy of this latest print so as to preserve my original copy which is, I think, about 42 years old now.
