About this deal

He summarized Channel Orange as "accessible enough for broad popularity yet operating in a pioneering realm closer to the avant-garde. Robert Christgau asserted that, without its predecessor's reliance on samples, "Ocean resists making a show of himself—resists the dope hook, the smart tempo, the transcendent falsetto itself. So when Andre 3000 showed up to offer some guest rapping and singing near the end of the album, it made a hell of a lot of sense. All in all it's a fantastic album and I don't think I could fault it in any way, picking out a favourite track is hard because I pretty much love them all.

My favourite track on here has to be Lost, closely followed by Bad Religion, where Ocean's vocal's are full of raw emotion. one of hard-won acceptance and the acknowledgement that love and sex and loss will always draw legends to them. The actual discs are completely different: my copy has opaque orange marble, and the center stickers are very minimal, almost matching the original Channel Orange cover, and each side has swapped sticker colors. Pink Matter, which nods to early-80s funk, is woozy and downright seedy, but it’s supposed to be that way.Personal favourites for me are Forrest Gump, Lost and Super Rich Kids, plus the crowning Jewel of the album 'Pink Matter' which is genuinely one of the best songs that I've heard this year. His lyrics are equally disjointed as he ponders everything from cotton candy to aliens amid a wafting guitar and ghostly howls. Jason Lipshutz of Billboard viewed that Ocean examines love in the context of money, drugs, and sex. In 2019, The Guardian ranked it 12th in a list of the 100 best albums from the 21st century, [131] while on rankings of the 2010s' top albums, Uproxx placed it 13th [132] and Pitchfork placed it 10th. Chris Richards of The Washington Post compared its melodic sensibilities to those of Gaye and Wonder, and its loose song structures to those of D'Angelo, Maxwell, and Erykah Badu.

I’m fairly confident I have the same release because the cover is exactly the same, serial number on the spine matches the same one listed in the comments. a distorted version of the tumblr-leaked track 'Voodoo' could be heard underneath the album's outro. Time magazine's Melissa Locker noted melodramatic elements such as "haunting melodies" similar to The-Dream's 2007 album Love/Hate. It is about a girl that provides salvation and peace of mind for the narrator, who likens her to an island. It was promoted with five singles, including Ocean's highest charting single " Thinkin Bout You" (number 32 on the US Billboard Hot 100) and a supporting concert tour in July 2012.He was inspired by West and Jay-Z, who prevented their 2011 album Watch the Throne from leaking by announcing several misleading release dates. The songs are confessional yet guarded, alive to all sorts of musical and lyrical possibilities, working in a number of genres within the space of a single composition, alert to both dream imagery and realistic observations of the world around him. C., Ocean reflected on the tour and wrote on his Twitter account, "This tourlife takes some getting used to. During their writing sessions, Malay noticed Ocean's use of gender pronouns in his lyrics, but attributed it to Ocean's poetic license rather than his sexuality. The title also alludes to the first time that Ocean fell in love, as it was summer and he perceived everything to be orange.

His songwriting explores themes of unrequited love, decadence, social class, and drugs through the use of surrealistic imagery, conversational devices, and descriptive narratives depicting dark characters. A quiet outlier, he scored notable collaborations with Jay-Z and Kanye West, yet managed to breach popular culture without making much noise. This album is exactly what music needs right now, Frank Ocean is as talented as he is classy; he raps, he sings and he conveys emotion brilliantly through his work, there's no gimmicks here, it's just pure, understated R'n'B. In 2020, Rolling Stone ranked the album at number 148 on the magazine's revision to the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list.At the time of writing this every single of the 6 "promo copies" currently listed for sale is actually the bootleg. Can't say that I had high hopes for a bootleg, but this is a uniquely garbage pressing of a great album. recorded atmospheric instrumentation by Mayer and other musicians, and tracked it to the original instrumental.
