About this deal

It was such a pleasure to meet you both, and I really appreciated how smoothly and professionally you ran everything. King Crab wants to not only to infiltrate S4, but also to melt the ice caps, flood the entire globe - creating "Flood-a-Geddon", and build a worldwide water park. Feline Super Spy Agent 9 can be a bit of a disaster when it comes to foiling super villains - there always seems to be a trail of destruction in their wake.

I have even talked the head into a little revamp of the library so that we can display them properly! But when the rest of the service is taken hostage, Nine is the only one left to battle the evil King Crab and stop his plans to take over the world. You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot! There was a lot in this that reminded me of The Incredibles and Penguins of Madagascar movies, so fans of those will definitely LOVE this. When James Burks was little, there was only one thing that he wanted to be when he grew up; a light-saber-wielding, truck-driving space pirate with a monkey for a first mate. A hilarious and action-packed new graphic novel following a feline secret agent who will do whatever it takes to save the world - even if it means destroying a few things along the way. It seems that whenever there’s an obstacle, they’ll knock it down, even if they’ve not tested it through first! As with any good graphic novel, this is not a bedtime story or a whole class read but has a very important part in the classroom none the less.

But there won't be a mission without some idiotic baddie and his robo-squid, and plans for flooding the world and making it a fun park for aquatic beasties (the name 'Waterworld' was taken…). The plot is fantastic fun and laugh-out-loud - the author clearly delights in using the narrative clichés of this genre with the bumbling secret agent and the super villain who can't resist blurting out his evil genius plan far too soon. My 6-year-old learned to read from graphic novels (including the author's other series Bird and Squirrel) and I can already see the same starting to happen with my 3-year-old through his fascination with Agent 9. His use of colour, panel size and placement give power to parts of the story, amplifying the action which is carefully punctuated with words and leading to the fast-paced nature of this story. However, when King Crab captures the main base she's the only one left who can stop King Crab from melting the ice caps and sending the world into a Flood-a-geddon.

We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Not only are the graphics crisp, dramatic and exciting, but the storyline and characters very funny. Fast-paced, fun and with bags of appeal through Agent 9's determination to win through against the odds, the story will keep readers gripped. Polly Crosby tells ReadingZone about her novel, This Tale is Forbidden (Scholastic), a fractured fairy tale set in a dystopian world. Then, however, Agent 9 has the chance complete the most important mission of all; stopping King Crab from flooding the world. The serious ecological message of melting ice caps is nicely conveyed amidst the madcap adventure and James Bond-style gadget action. The only thing standing in his way is Agent 9 as well as her robotic assistant FiN who will try to put an end to Crab’s plans before he can initiate Flood-A-Geddon. She and FIN race to town to intercept the shipment of the heat ray and figure out a plan to rescue all of the other Super-Secret Spy Service agents.

The fact I saw it when it was over two years old and we've only had one sequel suggests the franchise didn't really take off, which was a surprise – there may be hundreds of books like this out there, but this was a friendly and enjoyable one, and for once not something so daft and gaudy people over a certain age were excluded. This secret spy is forced back into the game when supervillain King Crab has captured all the agent's. Agent 9, an impulsive feline agent, and her robot fish sidekick, FIN, must save the world from King Crab, the super villain, in this new high octane graphic novel. On probation, Agent 9 is promised one last crime-busting chance by big boss O (a very literal BIG boss - O is a huge orangatan, to be exact). Before a mission is found, however, Agent 9 finds themself and robotic fish eye sidekick FIN (the long-suffering voice of reason and probable real brains of the duo) remaining the only Agent that now stands between the super evil King Crab and his dastardly plan to flood the world to build a worldwide water park.

This led James to a long career working in animation on various feature films and television shows, including Space Jam, the Iron Giant, the Emperor’s New Groove, Atlantis, Treasure Planet, Home on the Range, Wow Wow Wubbzy, the Bravest Warriors and most recently the reboot of the Power Puff Girls (just to name a few). When Agent 9’s boss, 0, and sidekick, Fin, are captured by King Crab, it’s up to Agent 9 to save them and save the day. He's spent over twenty years working undercover in the animation industry on movies and television shows, including Bravest Warriors, Space Jam, Treasure Planet, The Emperor's New Groove, The Powerpuff Girls, and The Iron Giant.
