About this deal

The book is a hefty, handsome tome - perfect for your fall coffee table decor, even if you don't choose to read it. With dozens of original illustrations throughout, this Novelization is sure to become an automatic must-have among collectors and avid fans of the film.

Three hundred years later, in 1993, teenage Max and his 8 year old sister Dani have just moved with their family to Salem from California. When Allison opens the spell book, and looks at the names of the owners, she sees that there is an Elizabeth Sanderson listed after the names Winnifred, Mary and Sarah. This illustrated novelization of HOCUS POCUS delivers exactly what I was expecting and then offers a little more. In general, the book seemed to give Allison a tiny bit more of a part, as a STEM student that Max had admired for awhile before Halloween. Although a black cat attempts to stop Max, he recklessly lights a strange-looking candle to show that he doesn't believe in superstitions. It was fun to fill in the little holes of the character emotions and movement of the story with the author's words as the story progresses. There is a several incidents like this, where the 17th century witches encounter modern wonders that mystify them.

If you are one of the many that love to watch the first movie multiple times every year, thinking it's flawless.Even the bullies get a bit more oomph, being described as kids who their kindergarten teacher best defined as persistent.

Hocus Pocus is a classic with a cult following, so when I found out there was an illustrated novel coming out, I reserved it at my library immediately. And there were definitely some moments that I would’ve wanted illustrations of but didn’t get, yet other illustrations in the book that either felt repetitive or that I wasn’t crazy about. For the first time ever, fans and readers of all ages can enjoy the full story of the immensely popular Hocus Pocus with this deluxe Illustrated Novelization that will show fans the likes of Max Dennison, the Sanderson Sisters, Binx the cat, and other iconic characters as only celebrated, renowned artist Gris Grimly can: in all of their darkly humorous, unique gruesome glory! It was just very “guy gets the girl and everything along with it” and it was awkward how it centered the relationship in the final moments. Max Dennison has moved from LA to Salem, and he just doesn’t believe in the parts of Salem’s history that revolves around witches. I really loved this illustrated take on a classic; it was the perfect shot of nostalgia to prepare for Halloween!
