About this deal

The difference between chargers, though, is going to be charging speed and/or whether it’s able to even operate. As mentioned in the introduction, one of the biggest sources of consumer confusion around charging the Switch is that it does not take all the power a charger might support. The new Switch and Switch Lite both have improved power usage and draw compared to the original Switch.

I also have a separate addendum article listing the various chargers I’ve measured/tested to reach my conclusions. For USB-C, the amount of current the Switch will pull is limited to 2A, despite that the vast majority (if not all) USB-C chargers are rated for 5V 3A.Then I see the car chargers are going to have 5 volts, so how is that suppose to charge a 15 volt system? The power usage of the Nintendo Switch helps determine how long you can play away from a wall outlet. The replacement Nintendo Switch Charger comes with a long, 6-foot cable, so you can easily reach your gaming console even when it's plugged into an outlet that's not immediately next to you. That has always been the case - when phones had random 25 pin connectors some of them supported video out, some of them didn't, some of them let you connect and sync with your PC and some of them didn't.

But much like the “calories in/out” formula, its deceptive simplicity obscures the complexity of what’s actually happening with charging. I want to reduce the number of chargers I travel with, and I'd love to not have to unplug the Nintendo one from the entertainment spaghetti every time. Im guessing the 15V is for the Nintendo Dock which allows you to play-n-charge at the same time so thats probably why it can supply the 5V and 15 Volts. Like my samsung chromebook plus charger, requirements don't say 9v 3A, my samsung charger pushes out 15V at 2A, and 9 or 5V at 3A.Definitely an improvement over the bad old days of weird-sized barrel connectors of dubious polarity, though. So understandably, we are left with a tremendous amount of consumer confusion around how to pick the right charger for the Nintendo Switch.

Top brands like Apple, Samsung, Sony, PlayStation, and Xbox are all available at Gadcet and come with 12-month warranty. There is no reason it wouldn't work with a proper sine wave inverter as the output should be indistinguishable from mains, but many cheap ones only output square wave which can be a problem. The Nintendo Switch only needs 15V when in docked mode as it uses twice as much power, its perfectly happy on 5V 2.On the power/wattage limit of the Nintendo Switch, a compelling case for the Switch maxing out at 18 watts was set forth by AnandTech — the maximum output of the Switch Dock is stated to be 18 watts, so it would be reasonable that the Switch would not attempt to pull more than that, lest it causes an overcurrent situation while charging in the dock. So someone help me make sense of this beast is it powered by 5 volts or 15 volts, and if its 5 volts then why does it say input of 15 volts? However, those of us with voltage/current meters have discovered that the Switch often limits the amount of current it accepts, and so in many cases, relying on the output markings of a charger has misled consumers into believing their charger supplies more power than it does. All USB-C chargers start out by supplying 5V with a 900mA current limit, then negotiate upward from there. Multi Protection and Safe Charge--switch power built smart PD IC chip comes with CE/FCC/ROHS Certifications, and provides the over-charging protection, over-voltage protection, over-current protection, short-circuit protection.

output provides enough power when you use it with the dock in TV mode, a great replacement or backup Nintendo Switch AC adapter.Charging and device manufacturers are still struggling to get comfortable with specifications and get their implementations right — from bad cables, to bad chargers, to improperly combining proprietary charging protocols with USB-C/PD, to safe chargers marred by poor user experience and design. During testing the original Switch would turn on its fan, as it was hotting due to a larger power draw. Results will vary, but more often than not you won’t be able to charge the Switch unless it is asleep.
