About this deal

You might prefer the Turtle Beach if you like a really bassy sound, since they have an always-on 'Bass-Boost' feature and add a lot of extra rumble and punch into your audio. Where normally it sits kind of in the background, filling in the gaps between the instruments, on the Astro A10 it totally takes over the song, drowning out most of the cymbals and horn sounds. The heavy, dubstep-like soundtrack of Tekken 7 on PC sounds powerful and oppressive through the A10, with the deep bass drops getting almost subwoofer-like force at high volume levels. The Astro A10 Gen 2 and the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 1 are budget-friendly wired gaming headphones with slight differences in performance.

However, the JBL are a little more portable thanks to their detachable microphone, while their simple onboard control scheme provides more feedback than the Astro’s in-line remote. I think Astro know that its target audience for this headset is the young market, though: The headset has small earpads, and anyone with a larger head will struggle far more than a child would. The earcups are quite small, though; I have small ears and I was aware that the foam was touching them, but it wasn't uncomfortable. The Astro are much more premium feeling, have a better-balanced sound profile, and provide a more consistent, comfortable fit. The unidirectional mic ensures your teammates hear you with clarity and precision and features flip-to-mute functionality. While both headphones are comfortable, the Corsair are wireless gaming headphones with low wireless latency, and they support Dolby 7. If you really want to splurge, the Turtle Beach Elite Pro Tournament Headset is our pick for high-end wired headsets for its plush, pillowy fit, and the Astro Gaming A50 remains our pick for a top-of-the-line wireless model. The felt-wrapped earpads and headband padding are fairly plush, and I found the headset quite comfortable to wear for long gaming sessions.

The cable is removable, and it’s quite similar to the cable that comes with the A40s, but a bit more springy. Vocals still sound natural and my ears adjusted to the character of the mids after just a few songs. The Astro Gaming A10 Gen 2 is excellent and affordable, so it easily earns our Editors’ Choice award for budget gaming headsets. The pounding industrial soundtrack and bombastic weapon sounds pack plenty of punch, combining generous low frequency response with high frequency sculpting to give each weapon its own sense of power and texture. I’ve reviewed dozens of headsets over the years and let me tell you: No button compares to the ease of simply pushing a microphone out of your face when you want to mute it. Now, if you’re the sort of person who doesn’t like things touching your ears, you might not love these. Not every headset needs to do double duty for studio production work or “hearing every little detail” in an old favorite music track.

We've retested 'Feedback' in the Controls test as we felt that the original 'subpar' result was too harsh. The screeching vocals' highest frequencies sit a bit back against those elements; they're present, but they don't cut through the mix. The test recordings sounded clean, and picked up no stray fan sounds from my notebook or its cooler. Experience explosive audio thanks to 32mm dynamic drivers, flip-to-mute boom mic, and durable construction with replaceable ear cushions and headband pad combine for an unforgettable audio experience.De-emphasizes bass sounds, which means people with deep voices might not sound quite right, but otherwise it sounds more or less fine.

It’s available in Red, Blue, and Green versions that have specific primary platforms listed…but all three will work with any device that has a 3. Luckily, there are some solid contenders for much, much less money, finally freeing you from the flimsy, awkward chat headsets packed in with consoles. The A10 clearly takes design cues from its more expensive siblings, but lacks much of the flair you'll find on the A40 and A50.
