About this deal

Each chapter is narrated from a particular character's pov and the author has focused more on what's going inside their heads rather than concentrating solely on the story. DCI Lesley Calrke is in Birmingham enjoying some good times with her daughter before she’s due to start working for the Dorset Police Major Crimes Investigations Team. Lesley must find the killer before he or she strikes again, all while dealing with a mutiny in her team and political pressure from her boss. At the same time, a local journalist has been investigating the death of Lesley's predecessor—and claims to have key information. Our thoughts remain with all those who have lost their loved ones and we sincerely hope that one day they get the answers they deserve.

A man was charged after her body was found a year later, but the case remains on file after his conviction for similar offences. Was hoping reading would help me sleep, no chance, every time I say just one more chapter I have to read the next. Just what was he doing on site and why was a member of the crew named Patrick going through his things earlier. However, what became of Mrs Green’s money is a little clearer- on one document it is noted that all Green’s goods went to Berryman but “now King Charles is to have all by Mr Melledy(a Sheriff of Poole)his seising thereof which ‘a quod non capit christus rapit fiscus ‘ “ – roughly translated ‘what God does not take, the exchequer seizes’.Her Team's DS Dennis Frampton has been arrested for Mackie's murder although Leslie, her wife Elsa, and journalist Sadie are convinced of his innocence, and Elsa has even volunteered to represent him pro bono. Any new lines of enquiry that are identified through these reviews will also be investigated appropriately. The entire country thrilled to the scandalous cases of Alma Rattenbury and Charlotte Bryant who, in the 1930s, found living with their husbands so difficult that both found a terminal solution to the problem. It transpires that the deceased Archie was a serial womaniser, married with a child living in Bristol, who he goes home to on alternate weekends.

Some town records, including records relating to the murders, appear to have been lost or ’embezzled’ even by the 1630s-40s! The characters are mainly likeable in the whole, although I actually prefer the secondary characters to Lesley - she can come across as rude and a big city know it all, whereas the rest of the team are much more likeable.

I have interspersed reading this series with reading other authors - J D Kirk, Val McDermid, Ian Rankin Christopher Brookmyre, and the difference in quality of writing and presentation is stark. Here, you'll discover not just the publication year, which is essential for understanding the context and evolution of the series, but also a succinct summary that teases the story without spoiling any surprises.

The Dorset Crime series takes place after the first six Zoe Finch books, when DCI Lesley Clarke is transferred to Dorset.

The murder of Jo Ramsden, a young girl with Down’s Syndrome who went missing from Bridport in April 1991, has never been officially solved. I get that the author wants to get us interested in the characters as well as solving the crimes, but I just find the characters difficult to connect with. Even though she hits the ground running, she butts heads with some traditionalists in her team who do not appreciate her style.Carl has moved with her (and Yoda the cat) – will Zoe find herself getting embroiled in a Professional Standards case? The Village series is a post-apocalyptic psychological thriller trilogy focusing on a family whose past catches up with them. It seems that this was common knowledge – one of Mrs Green’s neighbours, Clement Starr, had been heard by witnesses discussing how easy it would be to break into the house and take the money. Minor but breaking the flow and then the flow stops with nobody arrested and a summation of many loose ends to suffice.
