About this deal

I wanted to make a book to get people interested in nature, but I also wanted to show how badly nature is doing.

Some of the technologies we use are necessary for critical functions like security and site integrity, account authentication, security and privacy preferences, internal site usage and maintenance data, and to make the site work correctly for browsing and transactions. But besides their lovable faces and cute coloring, axolotls are seriously awesome amphibians that can teach us a lot about how to live life uniquely and successfully. Cute as an Axolotl is also and once again most engagingly recounted, and even with a bit of gentle humour thrown in for good measure (but thankfully and appreciatively not ever to the point of Keating's narrative becoming silly or feeling forcibly artificial, never to the point of the author's humorous asides taking over, or worse, taking the place of factual explanations and scientific information). This book isn't bedtime reading, but if you would like to know all there is to know about what makes your amphibian tick, this is the book for you. I especially appreciated the pronunciation help because I had no idea how to say the animals name going in.When she was a teenager, she moved with her family to live in Australia, where she finished school and qualified as a CPA in Sydney. This book is all encompassing; its twenty five chapters are primarily aimed at scientists who work with axolotls, but for the keen pet-owner it contains quite a few chapters of interest, including the most in-depth account of the Axolotl's origins and history.

Not only does Keating provide each of the species' names, size, and diet, but she also identifies each one's habitat and predators as well as taking readers past the creatures' looks so readers realize that there is much more to an animal than meets the eye, and that cuteness is in the eye of the beholder.

Brown maintains something of a menagerie of her own, making room in her home for a 180-gallon saltwater fish tank, a 20-year old Scarlet Macaw, a Golden Retriever, and several highly tolerant cats. This book is a great place to start for any hopeful axolotl parents and I would highly recommend it if it were not for the terrible copy of the binding - both covers have curled and warped completely, with normal household use.

This is a hefty/heavy hardback book that makes Petranka's book seem like "light" reading (light as in light as a paperback in comparison). It estimates that only 50 to 1,000 mature adults are left in the wild, scattered across three lakes in Mexico City – Xochimilco, Chalco and Chapultepec. It looked like a mix of an alien and a human being, something very innocent,” she marveled in a Zoom interview.
