About this deal

Cadoro and Cadoro Velvet displays the five bases (silver, gold, aluminium, bronze and copper) with Cadoro Velvet, a silver sparkly base and base Ardesia, for darker shades. Did you know? Christopher Columbus purportedly sailed to the New World with a copy of Marco Polo’s “Travels” in tow. Thinking he would reach Asia and having no idea about the Mongol Empire’s collapse, Columbus marked up the book with notes in preparation for a meeting with Kublai Khan’s descendent. There's so much choice out there when it comes to paint and it can be difficult finding the right colour and finish for your home. There's also a whole range of brands to choose from including Dulux paint, Farrow & Ball colours, Valspar and our own GoodHome range. Marcopolo Luxury is a unique and elegant special textured paint for interiors that can create features with soft, reflective iridescence. The Marcopolo luxury (sometimes called Marco Polo paint or San Marco Polo) paint is similar to plasters in a sense that it creates a feeling of depth, but is due to the fact that it’s a paint that can be much easier to apply and can provide a variety of looks, based on the application tools.

After many years of seeking a release from service, the Polos finally secured permission from Kublai to escort a young princess to her intended husband Arghun, the Mongol ruler of Persia. In 1292 the Polos joined a flotilla of 14 boats that set out from Zaitun (now Quanzhou, China), stopped briefly in Sumatra and then landed in Persia 18 months later, only to find out that Arghun was dead. Most of the grit can be taken away with a sponge in case you’re looking for an almost smooth or barely textured finish. A: A special primer like our Universal Primer should be used as PVA and other glues do not ensure the proper bonding and durability. A: You should sand the whole wall with 40 to 120 grit (start with the finer 120 grit) then, if the surface is smooth enough you can re-apply the paint! No re-priming or other base coat is needed IF the paint was thoroughly removed.

Make sure to put on our Universal primer before applying this paint and for an outstanding effect apply it with an Italian special effect brush and create the effect with a tobacco sponge.

Welcome To Impera Italia

Over the next three years they slowly trekked through deserts, high mountain passes and other rough terrain, meeting people of various religions and cultures along the way. Finally, around 1275, they arrived at Kublai Khan’s opulent summer palace at Shangdu, or Xanadu, located about 200 miles northwest of his winter quarters in modern Beijing. Marcopolo presents the five base colours of the product (silver, gold, aluminium, bronze and copper) beside Sable, a matt ‘argento’ base. Kublai, who generally relied on foreigners to administer his empire, took Marco Polo into his court, possibly as a tax collector. At one point, the Venetian was sent on official business to the port city of Hangzhou (then called Quinsai), which, like Venice, was built around a series of canals. Marco Polo also purportedly journeyed across inland China and into present-day Myanmar. A: Due to the acrylic nature of this finish it’s exceptionally durable, but as it only applied on a single coat it can be scratched by harder materials. On the other hand it’s very easy to repair it, only a sponge and a few drops of the paint are needed and the finish will be like new!

As the finish dries quite fast (touch dry in 30 mins) the look should be finalised one square metre at a time. These wonderful, colourful San Marco colour charts have been hand applied to provide real colours and finishes for specifiers. Each catalogue features dozens of colours, uncoloured ‘base colours’ and industrially mixed, reliable shades. Most charts present not a single, but a family of products, please see the FAQ for more details and the ‘Specification & Application’ section for the list of the presented colours. A: It shouldn’t be applied directly on them, but if you would like to keep the texture and overall look of the tiles and combine it with the effect of Marcopolo, technically it is possible! You only need to apply a coat of primer and once it’s dry you can put on the paint. For a seamless effect please apply a plaster on top of the tiles or remove them!

Marcopolo is not only easy to apply, but you can create a variety of 3D effects, similar to stones or prestigious (metallic) wall papers. As the finish dries very fast you should make sure to create the effect a few minutes after putting the paint on the wall, one square metre at a time.

Once you’ve applied a square metre and the paint has started to settle (2-5 mins), the effect can be changed or finalised with a tobacco sponge. In case you do a ‘ brush effect‘ use the effect brush or another, clean brush. A: This Italian finish should only be sanded and primed, or alternatively, the texture can be covered with fillers or gypsum plaster. A: The surface only needs to be lightly sanded, the new finish can be applied straight after the primer is dry.A: This metallic finish has exceptional colour resistance and no colour change has been observed yet. A: Although technically (after priming the surface) it can be applied, it’s not recommended as the texture of the tiles won’t be covered. A: Colours are accurate and repeatable, but eventually, the product’s iridescence changes the observer’s perception of the colour. Dilute our Universal primer with water (roughly 300mls or half pint to a litre) and apply it with short pile or mohair roller. Marco Polo was born around 1254 into a prosperous merchant family in the Italian city-state of Venice. His father, Niccolò, and his uncle Maffeo had left the year before on a long-term trading expedition. As a result, he was raised by extended relatives following his mother’s death at a young age. Niccolò and Maffeo first spent about six years in Constantinople (now Istanbul, Turkey), which had been under Latin control since the Fourth Crusade of 1204. The two brothers then went to the port city of Soldaia (now Sudak, Ukraine), where they owned a house.
