John Varvatos Artisan Pure is inspired by the verdant and lush hills of Xalapa, Mexico and its vast coffee and citrus groves.

Reviewers advertise it as a summer fragrance, so I've worn it multiple times during the summer and hotter seasons and I have loved every moment of having this one on! The opening is sharp, lemony and grassy, but there is some note that is "slimy" and I don't like it. If it lasted as long as ADG Profumo or Spice Bomb Nightvision EDP, it would be a daily wear during the summer for me.Not very complex - what you smell at first is pretty much what you get, but for a few hours it does a decent job.

This last up to probably 5 hours and then it wears down, but it smells better when it soothens out and when it smells on your clothes. The strongest of these notes are the clementine/mandarin, petitgrain, and lemon that give it a sweet, sour, and juicy fruit scent with a strong green quality.After about 3-4 hours the projection was about arms length and there was still an easily noticeable scent trail. Though the bigger portion often represents a better deal, the smaller is perfect for testing as perfumes can smell differently depending upon your natural body chemistry and how they mingles with your other skincare products. So I'm going to be honest - I am not too sure about all the notes that are supposed to be present here, but for me that isn't what counts.

Let’s face it, even if you're a model, people usually don’t just come up to you and comment on your scent. I had hoped that this was a more layered fragrance with some differentiation between the lemon, orange, bergamot and mandarine but it stays very linear and there is no complexity. If you care to purchase this juice make sure you layer it so you can have great sillage, and will last longer without turning into a skin scent so quickly. As you have probably noticed the bottle is pretty spectacular looking, probably the nicest I've seen. I also don't believe it projects all that well, unlikely to be noticed by anyone unless they are in very close proximity to you.

The "reminds me of" list here is downright perplexing, and I'll explain that soon, but first, the perfume. I get the citruses coming through heavily with the petigrain, a little muskiness and the wood coming through in the background too.
