About this deal

A rhyming story, it describes each day in terms of a particular color which is in turn associated with a specific emotion. it's a fast read for Seuss, and so deep and meaningful, I wish there were adult versions and a self help series built around this concept for the parents! Dark colors represent emotions ranging from anger to sadness, while light colors represent emotions like happiness. All of the original stunning illustrations and imaginative type designs of Steve Johnson and Lou Fancher are here, as are the intriguing die-cut squares in the cover. Tender Angels, Insensate Pickaninnies: The Divergent Paths of Racial Innocence” in Racial Innocence: Performing American Childhood from Slavery to Civil Rights , by Robin Bernstein, NYU Press.

Black and Brown children may internalize that their skin is inferior to lighter skin and that they should be mad or even unfeeling while lighter-skinned children should be happy. This book is a wonder because it helps put emotions and moods into simple color terms the kids can grasp, helping them process and move on.

Geisel saw his original text about feelings and moods as part of the "first book ever to be based on beautiful illustrations and sensational color". These colors have the modifier bright attached to them because other shades of red and blue can be characterized as darker, which would oppositely be aligned with low energy. I bought a copy because I was already familiar with it from the past having read my bros one when he was younger and he threw his copy out.

My son does not tend to choose this at book reading time when it is next to so many more exciting looking books, for this reason. This is a book good for starting conversations about feelings rather then directing or teaching about them directly. That said, when we read it, my son is happy to discuss how he has been feeling and it prompts conversation about what he has done that day (when getting this info is like getting blood out of a stone usually)! I had never heard of it but she recommended it to help my little guy identify his emotions so that he could learn to explain them rather than acting out.

It does not pass judgement on feelings or describe them as positive or negative, it simply gives an idea of what effect thay have using very simple text and powerful images. A brighter, more playful cover design makes this board book edition all the more appropriate as a color concept book to use with babies or a feelings and moods book to discuss with toddlers.Seuss takes the reader on a journey through many different moods in this vibrant and highly original book. Seuss's youngest concept book is now available in a sturdy board book designed especially for his youngest fans. Based on a 2007 online poll, the National Education Association listed the book in its "Teachers' Top 100 Books for Children". Having read it a few times, my 6yo will pick this up at random times to help show us the colour of her mood. Bought for my gradaughter who’s 6 and had some medical treatment that was very difficult for her and I wanted a book about our feelings .
