While it is understood that licensing additional clips for inclusion as bonus features would have added to the budget without benefitting the film proper, I would have loved an interview or commentary with Brett Morgen.As good as the transfer looks, the Dolby Atmos surround audio track is the real selling point here, particularly in the concert sequences where the beautifully balanced mix has a density and richness that’s wholly immersive. Featuring footage of Bowie performing and being interviewed as well as previously unseen concert footage released by his estate, the documentary follows his creative journey to become one of the most successful artists in musical history. Exploding the conventions of the music documentary, director Brett Morgen remixes dazzling, never-before-seen footage of the artist throughout his career, reveling in his otherworldly presence while revealing the restless philosophical inquiry that guided his myriad metamorphoses.
