About this deal

What follows on has far-reaching consequences she could not have foreseen as things utterly spiral out of control. The floor lies unseen beneath a carpet of broken clay; rounded halves of pots ending abruptly in angry jagged peaks. Stevens and Kate are relieved to be reassigned to the case, which has been reactivated with the new information. The squeal of wet brakes, the thud of a five- year-old boy hitting the windshield and the spin of his body before it slams onto the road.

A gripping, darkly comic tale of searing loss, coercive control and the consequences of taking the wrong path. At some point right before the book changes gears (and trust me, you’ll know when this is happening), I did find myself wondering what this story was marching along towards.I Let You Go made it to my top 5 thrillers that keep you guessing which you can check out here if you’re interested: https://readbyjess.

An intensely beautiful depiction of vulnerability that instantly draws you into the world of a disturbingly fragile woman. At the same time, the novel tracks the pair of Bristol police investigators trying to get to the bottom of this hit-and-run. As a thank you, when you sign up, I'll also send you my personal reading list: fifty books I loved, that you might love too.At first I thought I wouldn’t have any sympathy at all for Jenna and her situation nor really care what happened to her. It's the most personal book I've written, and I've loved hearing from readers who have connected with it. I Let You Go follows Jenna Gray as she moves to a ramshackle cottage on the remote Welsh coast, trying to escape the memory of the car accident that plays again and again in her mind and desperate to heal from the loss of her child and the rest of her painful past. However the guilt she still carries, about a devastating loss that happened eleven years ago, cannot be erased. I Let You Go, by Clare Mackintosh was published in Australia on the 12th May 2015 Little Brown Group via Hachette Australia.

Clare Mackintosh’s poignant narrative grabs you from the very beginning with the story of a mother whose entire world shatters when her five-year-old son decided to race her home. She looks up at the blurred windscreen, its wipers sending arcs of water into the darkening night, and she screams at the unseen driver to help her. The introduction of Patrick, Jenna’s potential love interest, offers some light in this mostly dark tale. Both books do illustrate Mackintosh’s ability to deliver an accomplished psychological thriller, with strong police procedural elements. Passing cars send spray over their shoes; the noise from the traffic making it impossible for her to hear more than a few words of the chattering update that began the moment the school gates opened.I highly recommend reserving a whole afternoon to read Part Two, or you’ll end up like I did: hitting some crazy plot twists right before bed, and staying up way too late to finish it! A deeply empathetic exploration of grief, loneliness, guilt, toxic relationships and forgiving oneself. I’m not sure how many days have passed since the accident, or how I have moved through the week when I feel as though I’m dragging my legs through molasses. It's a book to offer hope when you feel as though there's none to be had; a book to give to a friend when you don't know what to say.
