and that’s why this is getting five stars, just purely due to the visceral reaction it evoked within me. All she knows is that she was found on the shore, dressed in her underwear, the sea washing over her. She goes to visit the Liars at Cuddledown where they tell her that their deaths were not her fault (as they share responsibility) and reveal that they will no longer be able to appear to her, with Gat giving her a final kiss and the three of them diving into the ocean and disappearing.

All parents want the best for their kids, but what's going on in We Were Liars that makes those expectations unbearable? Names, characters, places, and incidents either are the product of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. We Were Liars is about a privileged group of cousins (and an outsider boy who is an almost-step-cousin) who live on their wealthy and manipulative grandfather's private island off the coast of Martha's Vineyard each summer. The insular family structure is overwhelming to outsiders, and on the day that Cady’s father decides to leave her mother, he notes that he cannot stand the pressure of being a Sinclair any longer. It was great to revisit the island and some of the characters again, with a fresh look at things and a new story to be told. if you think you are just reading a book about some rich family and a girl with a faulty memory and a mysterious summer, with no tantalizingly bossy instructions about keeping the book's secrets, you might be more surprised when the reveal is revealed.

Harris came into his money at twenty-one after Harvard and grew the fortune doing business I never bothered to understand. At the end of that summer, she has an accident, a breakdown or some kind of illness, but she can't remember what happened, how or why. But somewhere along the lines, I started to become intrigued with the story because it became this strange, wild thing that I couldn't piece together. No hay taaanto misterio ni taaantas cosas que hacer para que narre entre la prosa y la poesía, metiendo metáforas y escenas intensas en una historia que no deja de ser un libro sobre un verano de amigos y un poco de romance. The writing style and the prose would have been completely different if it had been from any of the other characters’ perspectives. The entire book is about a poor-little-rich-girl living with a poor-little-rich-family with the kind of ending that makes you go "WHAT THE ACTUAL KIND OF M. If you have literally no interest in We Were Liars but a strange feeling that you want to give this one a go, I would say it works as a standalone.

The novel is set in modern-day New England, as the members of the Sinclair family are sprinkled around the area, and they all converge on an island off the coast of Massachusetts.

They had decided that without Clairmont and all the valuable possessions inside it, the Sinclair sisters would no longer have anything to feud over. They reject the idea of spending time at New Clairmont and instead camp out at Cuddledown, formerly the estate of Bess and her family. Sex (kissing, sensual exploration), drinking, drug use (a pain killer), and language here are pretty tame compared with other books for teens. The Wall Street Journal also gave a positive review, noting the crossover appeal to adults and praising Cadence as an unreliable narrator.
