About this deal

This is, I believe, different from the suicidal wish of those who are in so much pain that death feels like relief, different from the suicide I would later attempt, trying to escape that pain. In WASTED, you see alternative possibilities unfold and disappear as the lives of Jack and Jess spin out of control. It is a protest against cultural stereotypes of women that in the end makes you seem the weakest, the most needy and neurotic of all women. And yet, for me, all of the above – life patterns which would tip most of us over the edge - isn’t his rock bottom.

It's a very true and honestly quite brutal story of how a drug addict thinks/lives and the consequences of such a terrible addiction. When you realize you hate yourself so much, when you realize that you cannot stand who you are, and this deep spite has been the motivation behind your behavior for many years, your brain can’t quite deal with it. The hospital had sparked in me an infantile desire to dodge the rules, to gleefully watch the Very Caring faces tighten and whiten with irritation at their own impotence, at your uncanny ability to trip them, force their hand, fuck them up. She presents erroneous references to behaviors such as 'cruising' (she stated it was a precursor to gastric rupture, if that was the case I would have died many times and many years over).

Always there is an odd distance between you and the people you love and the people you meet, a barrier thin as the glass of a mirror, you never come all the way out of the mirror; you stand, for the rest of your life, with one foot in this world and no one in another, where everything is upside down and backward and sad. This is how he thinks he keeps himself lucky, and he thinks that Jess coming into his life is proof of his system, proof that if you spin the coin the right way, make the right choices, take the right turnings, luck will follow. It will try very hard to avoid that realization; it will try, in a last-ditch effort to keep your remaining parts alive, to remake the rest of you. i think it also has something to do with, as she says: “being sick gets singularly boring after a while. In the beginning of this true life account, my heart shattered over and over for Mark and his abused siblings, their story sounding much more like fiction. She goes from moderately neurotic, to waiting patiently at death's doorstop, to being almost normal, recounting for us, her audience, all the stops along the way.

When virgin wood fibre is required, we still encourage the use of 100 per cent FSC, with additional due diligence. I imagine this is what Camus was talking about when he said that 'One has to imagine Sisyphus happy.because i think the author that wrote wasted would have different opinions than the author of madness, or sane, and i do think that's worth considering.
