It was like listening to a radio thriller back in the 1940’s, with silly details verbalised by the actor, rather than explained by the narrator. However, she has always been a fan of vintage fiction and lists mystery and crime protagonist Sherlock Holmes and Miss Marple as her favorite characters. Detective Chief Inspector Harry Grimm is forced to take leave from Bristol’s Major Investigations Team when his boss, tired of Harry chasing the ghost of his murderous father, sends him north on secondment. I find this very unfair on the author as it is not reflective of her writing but of people not reading the book information properly.

Absolutely would recommend for anyone looking for a compelling listen that will leave you adding the rest of the series to your TBR list. In the spirit of reconciliation, Audible acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. The second book in the DCI Ryan series finds DCI Ryan and his girlfriend looking into the death of a girl that was killed a decade ago. The lead protagonist in the novels is DCI Ryan, who unlike most of his contemporaries such as DCI Vera Stanhope or DCI Kate Daniels, does not have to navigate the dirty back lanes or sleazy basements of the large cities.

The pacing is perfect, the tension, at times, taking you to the very edge of your seat and the sense of menace . I feel like I need to go to DCIRA, (Detective Chief Inspector Ryan Anonymous), and I'm sure it would be a huge group and very supportive. Weaving in eerie isolated parks, foggy evenings and a setting in the historic 2000-year-old Hadrian’s Wall, the fast-paced detective thriller will have you in thrall from the first page to the last. Between the cheesy dramatic music, background voices, noises and sound effects, I could not get through the 2nd chapter and gave up - which is why I didn't rate the story.Even if you haven’t, this is a great book to start the series off with, with it actually being the prequel. Forensic psychiatrist Doctor Alexander Gregory has a reputation for being able to step inside the darkest minds to uncover whatever secrets lie hidden there, and soon enough he finds himself drawn into the murky world of murder investigation. Glad I stayed with it, as the conclusion is good, but there are so many better listens out there, in my opinion.

It gives good grounding before heading into the written series as to how Ryan came to be on Holy Island in the first place, although bear in mind that if this is the first 'book' you engage with, there will be elements of Holy Island which will not be as big a surprise when you do read it. But when a local teenager runs away, Harry finds himself pulled into an investigation much worse than anyone could have ever expected. I don't think I could imagine a better cast for this to be fair and can only hope that there are more audio productions in the future to reunite (most of) them again. When will Death Rocks be published please as I have now read all the Ryan novels and would very much look forward to the continuation of the journey, with all the characters in these novels . Ross chose to self-publish her first novel instead of going the traditional publishing route, and the decision paid off. Tough, classy and resilient, Denise MacKenzie is an outstanding detective and friend who goes above and beyond, but seldom suffers fools gladly.

When Victoria Davies was pushed off her stately home's roof in 2001, all evidence pointed to her husband, Michael. With the full cast you could close your eyes and be transported to the story, Loved it, even thought when listening to the girls I did feel their anguish a bit too real. As Ryan tries to piece together the clues surrounding the ten-year-old case, he is forced to contend with demons he thought he had left in the past. To the close-knit team of police in Northumbria CID, Ryan is still an outsider; aloof and uncompromising. The DCI Ryan books delve into the history of North East England, using local myths, legends and cults to drum up plots. There’s a serial killer targeting the streets of Newcastle, seemingly picking his victims at random but subjecting them all to the same torturous end. having thought that they were just a way of making money once the ''Hero'' has been established but I will reconsider my views, this one makes sense all I have to do now is rearrange my list so that this book becomes the first then I shall read them all again with more insight into my favourite team of detectives.
