Upon hearing that Ethan Hawke would be portraying a character who abducts young boys, I was turned off, because he never plays roles like this. Black levels are on point with nice creepy dark shadows where you constantly question what could be hiding in that corner, and more often than not it’s a pretty good jump scare!
The Black Phone is available to own with captivating extras on Digital on August 12 and on Blu-ray and DVD on August 16. I'm glad I could excite myself enough to see this one in theatres because I think it was well-done all around.The Black Phone follows a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, Finney, who is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement.
Mason Thames does a tremendous job as Finney carrying a lot of the emotional and physical load of the film.
