Zacapa 23 is a super-premium rum made from a blend of rums aged between 6 and 23 years old, Zacapa has been awarded first place five times in a row at the International Rum Contest *- the only luxury rum in the Rum Hall of Fame, Warm and smooth on the nose with sweet hints of vanilla, honey, dried fruits, smoke and orange peel. Made from sugar cane honey under the watchful eye of Lorena Vasquez, Zacapa is great as a sipper or cocktail ingredient. A favourite here at Master of Malt, this is a truly superb Guatemalan rum, blended using the solera system, and including rums aged between six and 23 years. There are rum’s in my cabinet which I rate very highly and I do not actually know how “aged” they are.

Most rums use molasses, a by-product of the sugar making process, as their base; Zacapa, however, is different. It’s bouquet is very flowery and fruit laden and it’s finish is a good 5 minuets or so but over all it’s a dangerous Rum because it’s very easy to get lost in the complexity and over do it and get really drunk.Due to the fertile, acidic soil and year-round sunshine, no other place in the world is better suited to the cultivation of sugar cane. Tried this rum 2-3 years ago and it had a thick mouthfeel with slow legs down the side of the glass.
