About this deal

Disney has released 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl' twice on standard-def DVD -- the first a two-disc set that was quite loaded, and then again in a three-disc version with a set of new extras that served mainly as an advert for the sequel, 'Dead Man's Chest. With a dozen or so high-profile roles over the last decade, the youthful ingenue is certainly no newcomer to the biz, but her two latest films – Ti West’s X which released earlier this year and now its prequel, Pearl which opens this weekend – are certain to cement the star’s place in horror history.

After you've finished, you can play back the mini-featurettes that relate to the specific gold coins you've selected. Both the video and audio are five-star, reference-quality presentations, while the supplements match everything that was offered on the standard-def versions.

Low bass extends so deep that even with just a decent subwoofer you should be able to feel some serious impact. Europe's busiest forums, with independent news and expert reviews, for TVs, Home Cinema, Hi-Fi, Movies, Gaming, Tech and more. The second track has the Producer Jerry Bruckheimer pair up with Brit actors Keira Knightley and Jack Davenport, and is a rather odd affair. This isn’t one of those mixes that “puts you right in the middle of the action” but does its job and does it well.

The scene where she explains everything that happened in the film up to that point is just beautiful. Curse of the Black Pearl' is almost equal parts bright daylight scenes and deep, dark interiors, and I was really amazed how adroitly both are rendered. On DISC TWO, highlight the deleted scene "Good Luck", then press "Right", "Up", "Up" on your remote. All five (each of these eggs previously appeared on SD DVD editions of the film, although the path to finding them here is entirely different) can be found on "Disc 2", via a special easter egg mini-menu. Fast forward this Blu-ray to the film's climactic attack sequences and you'll be absolutely thrilled. I suspect it would've been back before the weekend just gone 24/25 April, but Royal Mail decided to have a go-slow week and thus incurred my wrath.

Colors are bright throughout, and details are eye-catching with every hair, blade of grass, and face wrinkle always sharp and crisp with virtually no flaws. This is the rare instance when a huge budget was necessary, and pays off handsomely -- with every dollar right up there on the screen. Starting with "Back" highlighted, move "Left" "Left" "Up" and then "Right" and watch for the medallion on the bandana to light up. I understand your scepticism but I can confirm you have contacted the department which would have made the final decision regarding this matter. If origin stories are your thing and/or you just can’t get enough of the world that Ti West has created, then this is for you.

In addition to the rich, ‘70s grindhouse stylings West injected into that film, Goth was a large part of why the film worked as well as it did. We haven't seen this kind of old-fashioned, crowd-pleasing, goofy, escapist popcorn entertainment since the glory days of early Spielberg and Lucas. Even more miraculous, 'The Curse of the Black Pearl' is one of the few recent high-concept Hollywood insta-blockbusters that saw both critical and commercial love in equal measure -- the reviews were almost as good as the grosses. Goth does a fantastic job as the seemingly harmless, strange, young woman who is triggered by anything and everything and who embodies the very essence of evil. As stated previously, we did offer replacements to our Disney Movie Reward subscribers but we did not have an official disc replacement service in place.

The Doolittle Raid sequence is also quite well done and Alec Baldwin does an excellent job of portraying the brash Jimmy Doolittle with a good amount of exuberance. I've never been comfortable with historical films that remove much of the actual history of the event and instead focus on fictitious characters. The first documentary is the 38-minute "An Epic at Sea: The Making of Pirates of the Caribbean," which is broken down into nine subsections (there is also a "Play All" function).

The film look and tone really does live up to the stirrings of our childhood imagination, just like when we first experienced the ride, yet it also finds a perfect balance between that whimsy and a darker, more adult sensibility. Titanic also suffered in this same way yet managed to include enough actual history to be a bit less controversial.
