Perhaps the story was condensed and we're missing a good portion of character changes, because there's a lot of thought and description in the scenes while simultaneously forcing progression and plot twists. I did find some of the MC's behavior towards women and other characters to be crazy uncomfortable though. Her and Ariya as a focus could have been interesting on its own-- but the change of character really throws it off.
