Tuttavia c'è una cosa in particolare che mi ha lasciata insoddisfatta: una delle novità introdotte in Once Upon a Broken Heart è Nocte Neverending - una festività che inizia quando il principe del Nord deve diventare Re, e che si sviluppa in varie serate di balli, feste e divertimenti che si susseguono fino a quando il principe non trova la propria futura sposa.

Evangeline, having such Main Character Energy, is the key to unlocking this arch/doorway (I get she literally IS the main character, but just roll with the punches here). she always just wants to believe the best in everybody and she’s sometimes always a bit too trusting. He held on to her as if she were a grudge, his body rigid and tense, as if he really didn’t want her there, and yet his arms were tight around her waist as though he had no intention of ever letting her go. not to mention the fact that they’re literally perfect for each other despite being complete opposites.She wants Evangeline to attend the Nocte Neverending, a celebration of sorts where the prince in the north, Apollo, will try to find a bride at a series of balls. She’s insanely naïve, always trusting people she shouldn’t and wanting to help Marisol (her stepsister) when it’s very obvious that a) her sister is shady and up to no good and b) she generally has no reason to. This story held me captivated from the very first lines and didn't let me go until I closed the back cover. I'm not dead, but I might as well have been with all the help my respiratory system gave me when dresses were described. The plot was intriguing, there were heaps and heaps of drama and the characters were certainly likable.

I love how it takes the age-old trope of true love's kiss and twists it, and I love how the 'deal with a devil' theme is carried out in a fresh way. There’s also just a very fairy tale like feel in the air of this one from the balls and fancy dresses to even Evangeline’s pink hair!Ci viene ripetuto più volte quanto questa festività sia magica, indimenticabile, conosciuta in tutti i continenti, e quanto spesso duri settimane intere, se non addirittura mesi. With magic oozing from every page, reading Once Upon a Broken Heart felt like being swept into the most magnificent fairytale. what urges are they suppressing that the color matters because i used to think it suppressed his urge to kiss but then why do the colors matter? This had magic, curses, a prophecy, immortal fates, vampires (barely), spells and potions and it focused almost entirely around the idea of hea but at what cost. Garber weaved a lot of threads throughout Once Upon a Broken Heart, and they got tangled up at times.

Desperate to stop the wedding and to heal her wounded heart, Evangeline strikes a deal with the charismatic but wicked Prince of Hearts. The world wasn’t confusing, the characters were intriguing and still had plenty of twists and turns, never knowing who to trust. It jumped, hurdled, didn't miss anything, flew, outright told me to clear my schedule BECAUSE I WAS FINISHING THE BOOK IN ONE SITTING and I absolutely followed its instructions. But her dealings with Jacks, the Prince of Hearts, complicate her goals and often leave her left in a bigger mess than when she began - ya know, as stone. This man, gorgeous being, ethereal monster, delicious buffet, everything spicy and oh so very nice, was just what my heart needed.I can separate this book into two parts: Before Evangeline Drinks the Poison and After Evangeline Drinks the Poison. He agrees to do so under the condition that Evangeline will kiss 3 people of his choosing, but doesn’t say any more than that. An atmospheric read, fans of Holly Black will adore this dark, seductive and glittering world that seems simultaneously beautiful and dangerous.
