About this deal

Lisa Jewell's latest Psychological Thriller grabbed my attention from the start and held it all the way through. A storyline which makes this difficult to endure in some parts, but they are real life issues so of course we should cover them.

Dapple (in comments) has a really intriguing theory on Brooke: that Josie killed Brooke and then told Walter that Roxy did it. Josie’s revelations about her past and her marriage are shocking and Alix finds herself becoming inextricably drawn into Josie’s narrative. After Josie flees the scene of whatever happened, Alix repeatedly asks Josie if Erin is okay and Josie says she is. All is revealed when Alix becomes the subject of a true crime podcast to be featured in a Netflix documentary in 2020. King uses the phrase keeping it on the down-low in a way that suggests he probably doesn’t understand how this phrase is currently used—and has been used for quite a while.Josie denies this in her June 20 interview, but I think that is a common perception of abuse victims.

After all, isn’t that why we love unrealistic horror movies, because we can watch but still feel detached from it all? It starts slow but the sinister feeling tingles beneath your neck, warning you bad things are about to come and sooner all hell breaks loose. A psychological thriller, it tells the story of Londoners Alix and Josie, “birthday twins” who were born on the same day at the same hospital but who don’t meet until they happen to be at the same restaurant celebrating their 45th birthday. We were both flabbergasted when we made the discovery, it seemed extraordinary to us that we’d both come into the world on the same day and ended up doing the same job in the same very small orbit. The supporting cast of narrators that lent their gifted voices to the ‘podcasts’ were phenomenal as well!First off, I am the last person to be excited by the premise of a true crime podcast/documentary/Netflix show etc. She’s got a funny way of showing her guilt and sorrow for the murder of her husband, which only happened because she brought Josie into their lives), and Josie was never recognised?

She issues a quiet “Bye then” as she turns to leave and Alix beams at her and says, “Happy birthday, birthday twin! The story unravels via alternating points of view and via a Netflix podcast/documentary entitled ‘ Hi! She scattered secrets like candy pieces, which I happily gobbled up along the way, using a nice mix of detail from Josie herself, interviews with people from her past, her mother and others to provide variety and intrigue. After that my next traditional book will be a marriage scam novel, another one inspired by all the weird documentaries I’ve been watching! Even protagonist Alix has her blinders on selectively throughout and doesn't exactly do her due diligence with, well, anything.
