Hopefully for its 30th anniversary in three years, there will a much-deserved expanded issue with single mixes, b sides, remixes and unreleased material on all formats. My copy has a "Parental Advisory Explicit Content" sticker on the cover, and a "Made in Czech Republic" sticker on the rear. His full length debut on Daptone Records is equal parts raw feeling and elegance and exudes confidence and charm. Midnight Marauders isn’t as “jazzy” as The Low End Theory but it is still very sample-heavy, courtesy of the production from Q-Tip and Ali Shaheed Muhammad, as well as the group’s associate, Skeff Anselm, and Large Professor, who produced and rapped on “Keep It Rollin'”.

Sounds good but sounds identical to the 2019 regular black pressing so save yer money unless you are desperate to watch a green record spinning instead of a normal one. There was always some type of monotone female voice that had a computerized vibe that was giving you information. A routinely great artist, much of Sufjan's universal appeal comes from his skills as a gifted narrator, pairing personal musings on love and devotion with commentary on American culture, whilst welding folk and electronica, the ambient and existential.

Two years later we made the move to our present address, 35 The Headrow, where we have remained ever since. Keep in mind that tracks like "Oh My God" have heavy LP noise as part of the original recording, so you'll have that here too. The vinyl and CD versions of this album were released with green, red and black frames with the black one being the rarest. Early copies have printed dust sleeves, late 90s pressings just came with a regular white inner sleeve, otherwise identical if I'm right. The productions, more funky than jazzy, were tighter overall -- but the big improvement, four years after their debut, came with Q-Tip's and Phife Dawg's raps.

The New York crew is in particularly fine form on the mic throughout, while the backing tracks, which make great use of crunchy, head-nodding beats and hundreds of superb, hand-picked samples, are amongst the most intricately produced, groovy and deep ever committed to wax.Maybe that's their 30th anniversary plan this year 🤞 but for now, cassette and CD are the way to go for this release. Comprised of various labels we know and love at Rough Trade (Bella Union, ATO, Speedy Wunderground, Phantasy, Heavenly, Mute and more) PIAS [Recordings] filter through some of the most diverse artistry to our racks, which we greatly enjoy digging into. Just noticed that my copy has one side of the inner sleeve repeated on both inner sleeves, if that makes sense.
