This particular outing, which was Cole’s 17th novel, is set in Southend in England and tells the story of the Murphy family. I don't remember MC's repetition of characters in her earlier books (which I could not put down) and suspect "More No 1 Original Fiction Bestsellers than any other author" stickers on MC's books does not apply to every book written by her.

Christine marries Phillip Murphy and finds herself in a dangerous situation which goes on for many years. There is no real plot, characters' traits are described repeatedly without actually developing them and the story so far has completely failed to elicit any sense of excitement. It is all rather incestuous but if that is the life you lead then it would be difficult to meet someone not within that circle. finally, i’d just like to point out that the author (a white woman) used a racial slur for no visible reason, where it could be easily omitted.

The latest novel written by Cole features a new gangster character named Michael Flynn, who is considered to be a very dangerous criminal in the underworld. By chapter 10, you've already got the idea that Phil is a good-looking, but soul-less and cruel bastard.

The story felt stale and wasn't anything new - I am sure we have all read/watched this story before.

In addition,Two Women and The Graft have been adapted for the stage; both were highly acclaimed when performed at the Theatre Royal Stratford East, which also staged Dangerous Lady in 2012, celebrating twenty years since Martina's debut novel was published. On attempting to run away from her miserable life, she is rescued by Desrae who teaches her how to survive in the society of the criminal underworld.

It ended not as how I thought it would, but it certainly was gritty and hard hitting and the constant undercurrent of the importance of family was evidently clear.I am glad that in the end the family came together but I would have liked a much more shocking twist at the end. Read this book in a couple of days - very short chapters - I love that in a book as it means I can pick it up and read a chapter whenever I have a spare couple of mins. Obviously no spoilers from me, but it was the right way to end the story - given everything that took place before it. Aiden the eldest Son, head of the family who's word goes as he runs the firm and his Wife the rock by his side Jade who knows him inside out, watches his back and who is respected in the corrupt goings on.

And this was something different; Cole shuns her usual plot-driven structure and focuses entirely on her characters. At the age of 15, she left her school studies as she was involved in a love affair which eventually led her to give birth to her first child at the age of 19. Family aggro follows pregnancy or picking up a ‘bit of strange’ when you are married and flaunting it and don’t forget drunken outbursts. I so wanted to love this book, as I have loved every one of Cole's books I've read but this was so badly written I actually found myself doubting whether she had even penned it herself. I love how she pulls together her female characters especially, while some are in traditional family roles, they are hard as nails with such strong voices and they aren't doormats which is great and really refreshing in this genre where its all about the guys violently murdering each other to make a quid and earn respect. The book is extremely repetitive with multiple narrators saying virtually the same thing again and again. She continues to smash sales records with each of her books, which have sold thirteen million copies. Overall the book was okay, save the labourious repeation of describing the characters over and over again. I still enjoyed this one, it starts pretty much from the first chapter, each chapter is relatively short in length making perfect for dipping in and out of. I enjoyed the story and kept listening to the audiobook, but at the same time, I can't help but think that I had read this story before.
