I’ve just recently started playing a Kirby game for the first time so I’ve never seen any of these characters before but it seems like a quite different atmosphere. Viz Media originally had plans to localize Kirby of the Stars: The Story of Dedede Who Lives In Pupupu into English for North America in 2009, making an announcement about the series. Kirby Manga Mania is Viz Media’s “best-of” compilation of a Kirby gag manga Hirokazu Hikawa created for CoroCoroComics back in 1994. In this respect, it does differ somewhat from Mario Manga Manga, as those stories were generally set within the greater plot of a specific game entry in the Mario franchise.While this is faaaar from what I would want in a Kirby manga (given the deep lore of the games), it is a pretty cute, fun little group of misadventures. When the votes are about to get tallied, Kirby inhales the people who are in camp Dedede, winning the election and becoming king. Even if Kirby Manga Mania wasn’t recently released because of this effect, one can see why it works now in a way that it wouldn’t have in 2010. Hikawa selected the stories from his personal favorites, making the books equivalent to "best of" or "greatest hits" releases, with added bonus content like making-of pages.

It will have the most appeal for elementary school age readers who are familiar with the character from one of his many games; it's not impossible to understand the book if you're not particularly up on your Kirby lore, but it definitely pales a bit in that case.Kirby drinks a bottle of alcohol (translated as “loopy juice”) and proceeds to drunkenly destroy King Dedede’s relaxing sakura viewing party. Reviewers have mostly criticized the manga for its repetitiveness, characterization, and lack of character development and plot, with its fast-paced slapstick comedy being attributed to its target audience of children. People don't want to hear this, but despite being such a beloved series, Zelda games have always sold pretty modestly until very recently. In the second story, Dedede is turned into a toy by a spiteful witch, and can only turn back once he learns to be kind.

But what if they go a different route entirely, and we still get an Oddyssey sequel or original new 3D Mario this generation, while the next console actually launches with a brand-new Animal Crossing? Kirby (and the universe of Kirby) represents ease, simplicity, and a carefree ideology that is a comfort as life's stressors pile up. life lessons and truthful observations about the real world are occasionally woven into the stories, though in a sillier way. Each of the volume’s 11 short stories features Kirby and Dedede, generally with at least one other name character among the interchangeable animals and figures that make up the population of the Dream Land setting. There's also one where the characters are exposed to future technology, and one with Kirby being banished from Dream Land and starting his own country.Even devoid of context, he evokes a gentle possibility that only good things will happen to him and his friends, the details of which are almost all up to you and your daydreams. While Kirby Face/Offing King Dedede is undoubtedly one of the most horrific bits of body horror this cutesy manga contains, it’s still second banana to the last entry on this list.

Kirby even began life as a prototype sprite, one that Sakurai grew fond of enough to make the center of his creative life. King Dedede doesn’t take kindly to Kirby crashing his picnic, leading him to shoo away Kirby by chucking whatever item is closest at Kirby’s malleable dome. While his citizens laugh at his predicament, they quickly grow bored with him and move on with their lives. While Kirby’s campaign promises don’t go beyond him yelling that he’s going to be king of the world, how he inevitably gets there is some “stop the steal” type shenanigans.You could argue it's revenge for the games, but taken out of context of the games, Kirby just looks like a total, unabashed [bad word or three]. It was my first time reading any sort of graphic novel since I wasn’t allowed to as a kid and I’m glad I chose this one. I was there for the GameCube launch and while Luigi’s Mansion was great it wasn’t Super Mario Sunshine either. Fans of all ages can enjoy this collection of classic Kirby comics—just take a deep breath and hop on in! He speaks in complete sentences and, while he is still a lovable kid, he acts more like a small child rather than like a baby.
