Budget cooling does involve cutting some costs, which means using a single fan (rather than two) like the Arctic 34 eSports Duo which does perform noticeably better with thermal loads and didn’t encounter CPU thermal throttling. Once you have the cooler installed, the fan simply slides on by using the pre-installed plastic fan brackets. Ok so we're probably a bit late to be doing a 212 EVO review but we included it as part of our Cooler Round up because, after many many years of building systems with it, it's still one of our best selling coolers, and for good reason. Of course, at 150W the Evo gets overwhelmed since it can’t move heat away from the CPU fast enough, even when its fan is spinning at its maximum level. Now this is a relatively small cooler, but if all of your memory slots are populated on an ATX motherboard or if you are using something in the ITX size that last memory slot cannot be populated. Before we jump in I really want it to mention again that this cooler is not meant to compete with high-end solutions.
There is also a slightly lower thermal signature in the adjacent regions at full speed, which indicates the added benefit of improved airflow. Considering the low noise levels of the Hyper 212 Evo v2 even at full speed, having a quality fan curve which favors higher fan RPM is beneficial for any system installation. At the beginning of this review I also talked about that 212 Evo V2, and I want it to sort of replicate the performance you might be able to expect from that cooler on the regular 212 Evo. Hopefully I can maybe help you all avoid some of the issues that I have come across with this cooler.
