Hearing from people who were at the center of a big, important story that changed their lives and changed world history, just speaking to you about what it was like – at the heart of it, it’s ‘that could be me. First of all, well, I’m Fred Roggero, retired Air Force, and thank you all very much for your time, today’s fabulous presentation. We use Google Analytics to see what pages are most visited, and where in the world visitors are visiting from. You could be a student, a female newscaster, a government minister on behalf of women, a family member of someone who assisted the US military, faced with an impossible choice – “we could die trying to leave, or we could be killed”, says Malalai Hussainy, a female student in her first year of university who stood for four days in sewage water, oppressive heat and crushing crowds for one of the 124,000 spots on an aircraft out of Kabul. The film combines never before seen on-the-ground archival footage from the evacuation, alongside exclusive interviews with evacuees, eye-witnesses, U. But the images in the film of just the chaos outside the gate, just people waiting for days, the families being torn apart, and then the number of deaths that happened, it’s just—and the stories from the Marines on the ground were, really, just very scary and disappointing. Combining previously unseen on-the-ground archival footage from the evacuation with exclusive interviews with evacuees, eye-witnesses, US marines and Taliban fighters, the film also includes dramatic testimony from Afghan citizens attempting to flee.

But the airfield had to be just—that was why the mission was to keep the airfield open because it was the only way you were going to be able to get people out but also more Marines and more military personnel in to be able to actually enact the evacuation, which was spiraling. They were proud of their victory and they had this video, so he was kind of happy to share it when he understood that we saw this as a historic moment, too.
