About this deal

The book opens with our main character, Elise, sneaking into a gambling den dressed as a man to play a game of cards. Nunca hay suficientes libros de fantasía con faes, así que en cuanto supe de su publicación automáticamente se ha convertido en un libro que tenía que leer sí o sí y la verdad es que me gustó mucho. Between finishing a second degree, running a business, and eating too much chocolate, I love writing early in the morning when no one is awake. Normalisation of these tropes in media leads to them being overlooked in real life, which contributes directly to the systemic oppression of people of colour and marginalised communities, regardless of the author’s intent.

He may be arrogant and infuriating, but soon Legion incites a blistering, forbidden passion she can’t ignore. The Curse of Shadows and Thorns is characterized by an aura of darkness and despair, emanating from the intertwining malevolent forces of shadows and thorns that shroud the affected realm in perpetual twilight.

A Hero’s Prophecy: Within this chaos, the threads of fate begin to weave the story of the hero who will rise against the curse. I am not sure what the title means to the story as neither court really used Ice or Ash…but overall from a storyline perspective this sequel was better than the first book, but I’m a little underwhelmed and feel this is more a 3. I am aware that fantasy worlds are obviously much different to reality - however the author has chosen clearly to include certain accurate elements of Viking culture.

There’s also more world-building, and I am wholly intrigued with how this multi-kingdom conflict will end. The push and pull between them gave me Reylo vibes and I loved the Viking-inspired detail sprinkled throughout the book.I am going to give the last book a try but if it’s underwhelming as well I don’t think I’d continue with the story. I really like her, but somehow I feel that, in comparison to other characters to end up reveling to be very layered and multidimensional, she is a bit too consistent throughout the beginning of the series. The Curse of Shadows and Thorns effects are mirrored in afflicted characters who represent a spectrum of human emotions, showcasing its ability to amplify inner struggles. It ends up making her a very uninteresting character that I didn’t want to read her POV because it was constantly the same pity party in her head about how Valen didn’t chose her and how she couldn’t understand why he didn’t want to be King and how she had the emotions of a potato.
