About this deal

Parts of the book are deadly boring and there is a lot of information from 'unnamed sources' but I still found a lot of the book very interesting. It appears to also be an attempt to soften the reality of the way Diana was treated, which I don’t think is fair. Low's book Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown was published on 6 October 2022 by Headline. Ahead of its publication next month, Low – the man who first reported on allegations of bullying against the Duchess of Sussex from her time as a working royal – has offered a preview of his ‘gripping account’ in a series of extracts, published in the Times. Low claims that in the immediate run up to the couple’s bombshell ‘Megxit’ announcement, even their closest staff members were kept in the dark about their planned departure from royal life.

The Royal family refer to themselves as 'the firm' and it really is a big company operating from numerous buildings with the Crown, as CEO.

Low’s enjoyable account, based partly on interviews carried out while reporting on the Royal Family for The Times, is billed as “the story of how the monarchy really works”.

It is written by a member of the media so it portrays the courtiers more favorably than I think is realistic. And probably a whole host of other ones as the Royals, with the possible exception of Prince William (and I'm sure Princess Anne who mucks out her own chickens), cannot actually manage rather simple tasks like turning on the bath water. Some notable courtiers are familiar names to those with a penchant for history/Netflix, such as 'Tommy' Lascelles, or to more current political followers, such as Lord Geidt, but many are unknown powers behind the throne. A source said: 'She was saying, 'If you don’t put out a statement confirming I’m your girlfriend, I’m going to break up with you. So if Meghan was formally accused of anything during that time period it would've been leaked to the tabloids.Meghan, meanwhile, told him that if he did not do something about it, she would break off the relationship. Last but not least: The ‘lack of diversity’ is well explained in a few paragraphs and does the Queen justice. Review Given that Prince Harry and his book Spare are the royal gossip de jour, I thought it was interesting what Courtiers had to say about him and how he changed when Meghan came on the scene.
