We think this is important because a plastic bag filled with sloshiness sounds like a disaster waiting to happen and isn’t pleasant for waste collectors. I have used one of these for several years on canoe trips and it is still going strong despite being cardboard. It's a strong, lightweight, folding three-legged stool with a strong fabric seat with a large velcro flap covering an ample bum-sized hole! As a minor critique, I would say maybe the makers could create adjustable legs in case you need to squat inside a very low tent! Otherwise I think this is a great product that certainly beats hovering over one of those pits of Hades any day. It took two years to get the product to market but by 2010 BoginaBag was selling well and receiving some fantastic press.
Other items you might want to arm yourself with: extra loo paper, anti-bacterial toilet seat wipes, air freshener (you could make up an essential oil spray if you don’t like the ones on the market), disposable seat covers. Kate Castle came to Innovate Product Design to develop her idea for a portable toilet after identifying nothing else on the market which provided a decent solution. The custom bags fit neatly over the entire seat and drop down into the hole with an absorbent pad at the bottom, so hygiene isn't an issue. You’ll need to hover, though, and beware pressing down on the edge or you could end up with a collapsed mess. The flexible structure of this Olpro utility tent make it easy to put up, but (like all pop-ups) is a bit prone to bending in a breeze.
