Compared to some of the pricier options, such as the IQAir models, the Blueair Blue Pure is a great budget pick. The unit filters air from all sides through many layers of millions of ultra-thin fibers, meaning the filter is less dense in any given spot compared to a single face filter. Opt for an air purifier that isn't suitable for use in your room will mean that it ultimately won't be able to deliver optimum performance. Our pre-filters extend the life of primary filters, catching large airborne particles such as dust, lint, pollen, and pet hair.

To make our air cleaning ability assessment of the Blueair Blue Pure 411, we sealed off a 150-square-foot room and burned both printer paper and incense until the Dylos particulate value registered greater than 1500. When enabled, the air purifier auto-adjusts fan speed based on real-time conditions reported by the integrated particle sensor.When the pre-filter requires a deeper clean, it can be wasehd on a gentle, low temperature cycle in the washing machine. In Night mode, its gentle hum is barely noticeable, registering 29dB; chances are, your own breathing will be louder. If you want commercial grade pollutant removal, obviously this is not for you, but for maintaining less polluted, smaller spaces it's great. A 360-degree air intake means you can place the 411+ almost anywhere without compromising performance. As for those wildfires, it will be interesting to see how this filter performs if we get a lot of smoke again like 2020.

With one of the two pre-filters already in place, all I had to do was slot the top (white) section of the unit on and turn it to secure the catches.That's because, just like a vacuum cleaner, over time air purifier filters can get clogged with pollutants, and even let unpleasant odors back into the room. Putting it in the kids' rooms seems like an obvious use for the Blue Pure 411 but I do worry it might not survive the encounter in the long term, unless your children are particularly well behaved, or you put it out of their reach. However, the lack of controls on the unit itself mean that if you lose that remote, you won't be able to do much beyond turning this model on and off.

With less than five minutes required from opening the box to turning it on, the Blueair Blue Pure 411 is among the easiest purifiers in the group to set up. Unlike many filters, the Blueair Blue Pure 411 comes with a polypropylene filter that can be easily replaced and recycled. I tried this air purifier in my own home, not a science lab, so therefore wasn't able to measure its efficiency in terms of the particles removed from the air. Basic carbon 'sheet' filters are generally lightweight and have little capacity to adsorb these pollutants effectively. Victoria found that the air purifier, when set on Auto, responded almost immediately to the change in air quality and within 30 minutes on each test it had improved the air quality from 'Bad' to 'Very Good'.
