About this deal

Sir Michael Andrew Morpurgo, OBE, FRSL is the author of many books for children, five of which have been made into films. Teachers frequently comment that a child can learn more in a week on the farm than a year in the classroom. Morpurgo retains the dramatic poetry of the original, the bite and strength of the narrative, and the Christian content. Michael's books have been translated into many languages including Chinese, Bulgarian and Hungarian, Hebrew and Japanese.

I enjoyed reading something different and a different style of writing, it’s just not my favourite genre. He has written and illustrated numerous children's books and won several major awards, including the Kate Greenaway Medal, the Kurt Maschler Award, and the Bologna Graphics Prize. What I liked about this book is the amazing descriptions that allows the reader to enter another world, it also includes alliteration that adds special effects to the book. On the other hand, I disliked that the protagonist had no flaws, it makes the character inhumanly and the reader can not relate to him. I liked this book , the story contains friendship, ad venture and people that care, although some of it didn’t really catch my attention. Years later a vicious dragon is awakened after someone does something really stupid, (*warning: never steal gold from a sleeping dragon) and Beowulf must save his own people from the dragon's venomous fire.

There are appropriately 14 sessions worth of materials that give pupils the opportunity to practise and repeat skills through short writing opportunities. To touch the lives of children, to witness their listening and reading silence, is reward enough in itself. The story was a thrilling adventure, and was so descriptive, I could imagine every single scene in my mind. He travels all over the UK and abroad talking to people of all ages at literary festivals, telling his stories and encouraging them to tell theirs. Decent retelling that worked well for reading aloud for my kids, my kids were able to follow the story well.

But before the victory gets back into full swing again at the mead-hall, trouble brews once more out on the moors. My daughter and I loved Beowulf by Michael Murporgo which is actually a retelling of the classic epic poem in a children's book format, complete with full color illustrations. D.--the tale of Beowulf, a Geat warrior who battles three evils so powerful that they destroy entire kingdoms.

His life might be over, they said, but his name and his deeds would live on as long as his tale was told. It started, and I realised it was CG, and I actually thought, oh, this might be less alarming, then. Beowulf's sword has no power against the monster but then he spots an enormous sword in a corner of the cave. One of the UK’s best-loved authors and storytellers, Michael was appointed Children’s Laureate in 2003, a post he helped to set up with Ted Hughes in 1999. Beowulf, is a true hero who actually fights and kills monsters with his bare hands and it ain't pretty. After reading "The Hobbit" in January, I was convinced that Tolkien has based part of his world-building, if not all, on a large amount of Norse mythology, which is not really that surprising, he was a philologist and language teacher English and Literature.
