About this deal

Madeline and Arthur’s relationship was especially beautiful and I loved how they’d been through so much together.

Seeing his mum’s reaction to Arthur’s announcement sets him back, but he’s always had a lovely relationship with Arthur and confides in him. Honestly, I expected a sweet, funny, and meaningful story about this guy and his grandpa navigating coming out together and the intergenerational support and respect that the queer community desperately needs more of. Thus, they break up because Ben has broken Teddy’s trust (fair enough), but there’s hardly mention of how badly Teddy had been treating Ben up to this point. I really enjoyed this book it was so easy to read and I think it will appeal to the younger readers because it’s got a modern vibe too it.There are themes of family and friendship, societal attitudes, ambition, relationships and identity that swirl through this engaging story. Arthur and Teddy Are Coming Out is a feel good novel about a man and his grandson both telling their family that they are gay. Arthur ist vermutlich der liebste Großvater, den man nur haben kann und sein großes Herz und sein unerschütterlicher Glaube an das Gute in den Menschen haben mich wirklich sehr berührt. Having queer versions of this kind of finding-yourself-at-any-age light read genre is a good thing, allowing more people to see different kinds of stories about sexuality, but the narrative pacing and writing of this one wasn't quite for me.

Teddy will feel really familiar to a lot of young gay people I think, with his struggles to come out highlighting how hard it can still be even now. excellently well thought out family and friendship dynamics and a bit of a subversion of expectations when it comes to happy endings. She made a moment of bravery and vulnerability from them all about herself, not only once but twice.year-old Arthur Edwards has had to live his whole life a lie, but he’s decided that it’s time to change that fact.

After hearing Arthur’s account of being a closet gay in the sixties, being subjected to conversion therapy at his father’s request, Teddy is grateful that attitudes have changed, but still wary of coming out, given his mother’s reaction. Until then, I suppose at least younger readers will (probably) enjoy the Teddys and Bens of the fictional world. I just felt very meh throughout the book which is disappointing because I genuinely thought I would have liked this book from the synopsis. He has been living closeted for his whole life, and he is now 79, and he and the love of his life were forcibly separated amidst a violent homophobic incident fifty years before. This story definitely put a HUGE smile on my face and I predict it’s going to be one of the best books of 2023!

Every single character in this books brings something special to the story, be it positive or negative. Both Arthur and Teddy are engaging main characters, and there is a good balance so you’re never itching to get back to the other narrator.Too often, queer literature is enjoyed only by the LGBT+ community, but this is a novel ready to be loved by the masses. This is a used book - there is no escaping the fact it has been read by someone else and it will show signs of wear and previous use.
