About this deal

Ross, naturally curious and far less skeptical than he should be, decides there's no harm in seeing what this old loon gentleman has to say. As key individuals are found dead in mysterious circumstances, Ross finds himself in Egypt and Los Angeles as other co-ordinates come to be revealed, each provides evidence of and lead to events and a person whose identity will impact the world.

Investigative reporter Ross Hunter dreams of the day he comes across a story that will make his name and may have just found it. It makes for interesting reading, and I loved thinking about how this proof could afect so many people, in so many ways. Absolute Proof is a cleverly woven story combining religion and the idea of whether the book's title - 'absolute proof' - actually exists, with plenty of action, suspense and conspiracy.I started reading Nancy Drew mysteries in 4th grade and was sure I had found every gem of an author over the past 61 years of reading. James is producing with James Simpson with Daniel Eckhart bringing the detective’s story to the big screen. This book is a stand alone book so I was even more excited to become acquainted with the story without having to think about any back story etc.

I could have preferred less description of what the various characters were eating, drinking and wearing. And the irony is that science is asking questions that only religion can answer, but to accept those answers would mean admitting defeat for the scientists. When we first met investigative journalist Ross Hunter he was nursing a nasty hangover (again) but took himself off to the gym. Being a tale that is eluding to the holy grail and so forth, it’s a storyline that’s extremely hard to tackle if you overthink it. The premise originally turned me off it because I don't really like reading anything to do with religion. Under serious threat from several organisations who seek the evidence Ross is gathering, Absolute Proof has been compared to The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown.

Absolute Proof by Peter James | Waterstones

Peter James' gripping thriller Absolute Proof follows the journey of investigative reporter, Ross Hunter, who is soon to discover the answers to those very questions. I would like to thank Net Galley and Macmillan for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Rebus, awkwardly inserting himself into the case, finds that his old enemy “Big Ger” Cafferty is involved. I am a stay at home mom and the closest form of toddler entertainment is about an hour away in Portland. Until their truck is hit by a drunk driver, and all four of Michael’s friends end up fatally injured. Ross Hunter is a journalist used to investigating hard hitting topics, such as the government failing soldiers in Afghanistan with lack of equipment and funding. It was kind of interesting to pick this up as an atheist and to ask myself a lot of those questions.

Absolute Proof by Peter James - Pan Macmillan

The phoney faith of a billionaire evangelist, the life's work of a famous atheist, and the credibility of each of the world's major religions are all under threat. It was ambiguous and anti climactic and I expected more from an award winning author who has sold more than 19 million books. There's also a lot of missed opportunity - for example, Ross travels to Paris at one stage and all we see is a hotel room before he's back in the UK.The unravelling of a connection between Hollywood and the criminal world is adroitly done, and the period language never sounds a false note. He seems to put work before everything else, including the safety of his wife and unborn child, which is good for the plot but not so much for his family! A few of the characters said that there would have to be something that broke the laws of physics for them to conclude that there was a god, but for me, I’m so atheist that I’d just conclude that we had more to learn about the laws of physics.
