About this deal

With the Sigma 16mm, 30mm and 56mm F1.4 DC DN C lens wide open at f/1.4, you can see some obvious light fall-off in the corners. Stopping down helps, although to completely get rid of this phenomenon, you will need to use an f-stop of f/4 or smaller. Light Fall-off - Sigma 16mm F1.4 DC DN C

This lens is an absolute beast. It’s just as sharp, has rediculous autofocus (OEM Sony lens, of course) and features incredible G-series build quality. A relatively common lens aberration is axial (longitudinal, bokeh) CA, which causes non-coinciding focal planes of the various wavelengths of light. For those looking for an APS-C lens that is L mount for say a Leica CL, Sigma has three that are currently out. I reviewed the 56mm f1.4, which you can find here, and I’ll be writing a review for the 30mm soon. Sigma also has a wide angle currently out, it’s the 16mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary lens. I had a chance to test it on a CL for a while, and here’s what I think of it. Sigma 16mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens Build Quality:The optical design and stepping motor deliver smooth autofocus during video shooting. The lens design fully accommodates the Fast Hybrid AF of Sony E-mount cameras for super-fast autofocus functionality. Using face recognition AF results in consistent autofocusing on faces, even as the subjects move. In addition, the SIGMA Art line includes three lenses for mirrorless cameras that cover a range of photographic needs: 19mm F2.8 DN | Art, 30mm F2.8 DN | Art, and 60mm F2.8 DN | Art. These lenses require no digital processing to correct for optical aberrations, instead using the optical system to minimize them. It also features a ‘hybrid’ image stabilizer, which can correct for x-y shift as well as the more usual angular vibration or wobble. This makes it more effective for close-up shooting although, in full macro mode, it’s no real substitute for a tripod. While most macro lenses top out at 1.0x for their maximum magnification factor at the shortest focus distance, this lens boosts magnification to 1.2x, thanks to a switchable ‘Super Macro’ mode.

Sigma 402965 16 mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary Sony E Lens - Black

The "DC" in the name indicates that this lens provides an image circle wide enough to cover (only) an APS-C imaging sensor, and the "DN" indicates that this lens was designed for short flange mirrorless cameras.Sigma have paid close attention to this aspect of lens use, employing a 9-segment diaphragm with rounded blades in all three lenses for more pleasing bokeh. A 9-blade count diaphragm will create 18-point sunstars (diffraction spikes) from point light sources captured with a narrow aperture. MPB puts photo and video kit into more hands, more sustainably. Every month, visual storytellers sell more than 20,000 cameras and lenses to MPB. Choose used and get affordable access to kit that doesn’t cost the earth. Extension tubes are hollow lens barrels that shift a lens farther from the camera, allowing shorter focusing distances at the expense of long-distance focusing. The SIGMA 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary features SIGMA's inner focus technologies, while lighter lens elements in the focus lens group make possible a more compact actuator. Moreover, this lens offers outstanding stability whether the photographer is shooting handheld or has the camera placed on a surface. Structurally, the lens features materials and parts that contribute to its compact, lightweight structure. In summary, this is an unprecedented lens that combines outstanding optical performance with exceptional portability and usability.

Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN | C review | Digital Camera World

The first in this SIGMA series of prime lenses for mirrorless cameras was the standard prime 30mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary, now followed by the wide-angle prime 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary. Going forward, SIGMA will add a telephoto lens to the series, making it a new and complete system for mirrorless camera users. The massive focus ring functions as a great gripping point, allowing for some good weight distribution andcomfortable holding/stabilizing.The focal length is always a primary consideration when selecting the ideal lens for a particular use. The Sigma 16mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens is available in Canon EF-M, Sony E, Nikon Z, Leica L, Fujifilm X, and Micro Four Thirds mounts. By f/2, sharp details are pushing deep into the image circle, and by f/4, extreme corners are very sharp. Still, the Rokinon can be a solid choice if you enjoy manual and want to save a lot of money (oh, and it’s the best lens for astro like I mentioned earlier). In any case, the Sigma 16mm F1.4 is an absolute legend of a lens. Conclusion like the other two lenses, the APS-C format Sigma 16mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens features an attractive design, ultra-wide aperture, and good image quality.
