About this deal

The C01 does add a little color to recordings, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It has a fairly smooth, flat frequency response, so there’s plenty of room for processing your vocals retrospectively in your chosen DAW. Rap vocals captured through this mic retain the intricate details and cut through the mix without any problem. I found the captured audio to be crystal clear and had enough warmth, which rivaled the audio quality of mics that were triple the price. Although the majority of microphones that are well suited to recording rapping are of the condenser variety, the SM7B is dynamic. Its unique cardioid polar pattern allows it to perform like a condenser, with the ruggedness of a dynamic vocal mic.

Although unashamedly entry-level, the C01U is quiet and clean enough to record vocals and instruments to a very acceptable standard, provided that they are close-miked, and its performance is well above that of any multimedia mics I've tested. As far as I can tell, the subjective performance of this mic is essentially the same as that of its wired counterpart, and that model has sold well for Samson. The digital noise issue will be a concern if you have a G5 tower-based studio system, but it could be argued that anyone with such a deluxe computer should be looking for a more sophisticated mic anyway! The Samson C01 has all the performance features that you demand from a large diaphragm studio condenser microphone. It's the perfect solution for recording vocals, acoustic instruments and for use as an overhead drum mic. It features a Hyper-Cardioid polar pattern that provides a high off-axis sound rejection. It is also unidirectional, which has its benefits. The most important quality to look for is clarity. Rapping is a complex vocal technique that relies on certain syllables and sounds being emphasized. A good microphone should hone in on these finer details, to produce the best quality outcome possible. The highly sensitive P420 is one of the best affordable rap vocal mics available. Its impressive attention to detail makes this microphone a great choice for capturing crisp sounding intricate rap lyrics.

The frequency response of the TLM 102 is ideal for recording rap vocals. I found that it focuses on the expression of the performer’s vocal style quite successfully. For such a high-quality mic, it is also surprisingly compact. Later on, with more exposure to lots of comparable mics, I found that it goes toe to toe with the most renowned vocal mics (the likes of the U87) and sits extremely well in the mix. As I already mentioned, it doesn't color your voice at all, so you're going to get an extremely true representation of your actual vocals with this mic. https://homestudiobasics.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/Samson_C01_max_gain.mp3 Who this mic benefits? I've had a few friends, who had only used established mics like the Rode NT1-A by that point, ask me what exactly did I change in my setup which improved the quality of recording that much. They couldn't believe that it was nothing but just the addition the Aston Origin to my arsenal. Nevertheless, subjective testing suggests that the tonality does stay nominally similar, provided that you remain close to the mic's axis, regardless of which pattern is selected. The high end of the omni pattern will inevitably change as you move off axis, especially with a large-diaphragm capsule such as this one. Smart Performer

Samson C01 Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone

Based on a large-diaphragm Chinese-built capsule, the mic is very nicely styled and cleanly engineered, with a choice of supercardioid, omni or figure-of-eight polar patterns. Supercardioid is a bit of an odd choice for studio work, but looking at the supplied polar plots indicates that it isn't too tight — very narrow cardioid patterns can be problematic if you're working with a singer who moves around a lot. Samson mics represent a fantastically affordable way to get your ideas recorded, or get your band out the PA system. Using the same technologies that are employed by much more expensive companies, Samson have a range of microphones to suit your application and budget. Here's what Samson say about the CO1:

Similarities & Differences

This is usually presented with a simple switch, which when activated, prevents the low-end frequencies from making their way into your recordings. Another common inclusion is presence boosting pads. A microphone with a frequency response range between 80 Hz and 15 kHz is a good choice for vocal microphones. However, you’d prefer a frequency range of around 50 Hz to 50 Hz for miking toms and snares. A low-end microphone for bass drums would be 40 Hz to 30 Hz. Conclusion

Samson C01 - Sound On Sound

Despite its multi-faceted performance, the NT1-A is a vocal mic first and foremost. Due to its wide frequency range, no matter the timbre and pitch of your rapping, this mic will capture all of it. Shure is one of the leading providers of microphones globally, famous for its SM57 and SM58 dynamic microphones. The SM7B is a unique offering, which rivals the two aforementioned mics in terms of popularity. The microphone is fairly compact, and the build quality is impressive for its price. It felt quite sturdy when I handled it, and 10 months down the line it's working just fine despite being dropped to the ground on a couple of occasions. The only real disadvantage when using this mic is its supremely high sensitivity. While it's beneficial for capturing even the slightest of nuances in your rapping, it's also extremely inconvenient unless you have a properly soundproofed recording room.A new mic from Samson offers true capacitor design and multi-pattern operation at an extremely affordable price. A younger sibling of the legendary AKG C414, the C214 builds upon its predecessor’s qualities and presents them in a more affordable format. The components used are very similar to the revered C414, with some slight adjustments which make it ideal for rappers. It's easy to be deceived by the small size of this model. I found that it is capable of capturing rap vocals with surprising clarity.
