confusion during the pre-production period of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, a tendency that may have progressed into the shoot itself, but Arrow's 1080 version of this film looks great, this version arguably ups the quality ante at least a little both in terms of fine detail and palette A group of villagers point their bows and arrows as a man with a sword runs for cover between them. proceedings, but the film has an undeniably modern style that may in fact have led to some of that aforementioned critical umbrage. As is kind of Robin takes an arrow from his quiver and fires an arrow toward a tree. It splits an arrow in two which was already embedded in the tree.

The only movies that summer that I admired were 'Terminator 2,''Thelma & Louise,' and this one, which still stands as one of the most entertaining action-adventure movies I've seen.UHD's HDR and/or Dolby Vision probably boost shadow detail a bit in selected scenes like the opening sequence in the prison. Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves comes with a great 2160p UHD 4K transfer with Dolby Vision HDR from Arrow Video. This new transfer ignites the impressive visuals once again some thirty years later. We don’t always age with the movies we loved as kids, and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves is, to some degree, one of those cases for me. That said, in many ways, this film as as much fun to watch as it ever was. Co-Writer Pen Densham says that his original idea for the film was “Robin Hood a la Raiders”, and while it’s not THAT good, you can very much see that basic idea running though the film, as Kevin Costner’s Robin goes through an escalating series of action and adventure set pieces that punctuate the film. Beginning with the darkness, both visual and thematic, of Robin’s escape from a prison during the crusades, where his life is saved by a former enemy, Azeem (Morgan Freeman) is a bold choice that marks this out from the bright technicolor of the Robins of Errol Flynn and Disney and starts the film off on an exciting note. Additionally, this Limited Edition comes with some significant non disc swag. That includes a reversible sleeve featuring original and newly The sets are all dank and gloomy and wonderful. The action is well-staged and had audiences on their feet all those years ago. Sherwood Forest is appropriately dense and spooky-looking. OK, so the movie has Christian Slater in it. I didn't say it was perfect. Another major feather in this film’s cap is the music. Not only did this film deliver a tie in number one hit, with Bryan Adams’s ‘ Everything I do, I do it for you’, but the late (and always great) Michael Kaman delivered a rousing and emotional score that is still listened to by this reviewer to this day. Here We Are Kings: Making Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves - a multi-part documentary featuring interviews with Densham, Watson, director of photography Douglas Milsome, editor Peter Boyle, costume designer John Bloomfield and many more members of the creative team Not to be outdone, our friends down under at Via Vision Entertainment have unveiled their Imprint Films slate for November as well, each all-region Blu-ray titles...

Robin remains emotionless then as the blade falls he moves suddenly to overcome the guard and, in the commotion, make an escape. For every movie fan there are probably several films they can count as milestones, movies that became big parts of our viewing, even of our lives. Robin Hood Prince of Thieves was one of those for me. It came out at the perfect time, when I was 10. The screenplay had simple heroism, the villain was an obvious baddie you could boo and hiss at if the mood took you, there was plenty of action and even as a cut PG, it stretched the edges of its certification to a point that was an intense and sometimes scary experience for a relatively young kid. I loved it. Along with Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves became one of my first favourite movies. It was one of the reasons we first got a TV for the house, and a VCR to go with it, and it became a tape that was in heavy rotation. That was 30 years ago, and the last time I saw the film was probably about 10 years ago, when the uncut extended version arrived (as a 12) on UK Blu-ray. For this review of the new 4K disc from, appropriately, Arrow Video, I took my first look at the theatrical cut, finally fully uncut, in probably 20 years. With native 4K from a shot-on-film source, we're in good hands for Arrow's presentation, albeit under the caveat that Prince of Thieves was largely shot on location, in Nottingham no less, and so you have to be prepared for all that comes with a 90's UK location shoot, including variable lighting and the cascading ramifications of that. It's not a pretty movie, even if Reynolds captures a cadre of great shots. For the most part, it's a tremendous 4K rendition, pulling plenty of fine detail from the print, showing no objectionable signs of overt DNR implementation, or other clean-up work that would intrude on your enjoyment of the image, and wearing the hallmarks of a faithfully presented shot-on-film 4K release, namely a hefty swathe of natural grain. Sure, there is some softness; a haziness to earlier scenes in the woods, under cascading shafts of sunlight, but it's fleeting and intrinsically tied to the shooting of the feature. highly variable grain structure that is already evident in the 1080 version is only more pronounced here, and some of the yellow chunkiness also Here We Are Kings: Making Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves – a multi-part documentary featuring interviews with Densham, Watson, director of photography Douglas Milsome, editor Peter Boyle, costume designer John Bloomfield and many more members of the creative team
