About this deal

One of my favourite times for complete lawn weed control is in late August or September whilst there is still some warmth around. I would recommend this if you just need the one application in the year. The reason for this is: Method 2: Plants usually easily killed using one or two applications of weedkillers containing 2,4-D plus mecoprop-P or 2,4-D plus dicamba. Examples include Doff Complete Lawn Feed, Weed & Mosskiller,Vitax All in One Lawn Feed, Weed & Mosskiller or Westland Aftercut All-in-One Feed, Weed & Mosskiller (also contains fertiliser and mosskiller). Following spraying, do not cut grass for at least one day after treatment and ideally leave the sprayed area uncut for as long as possible

The RHS believes that avoiding pests, diseases and weeds by good practice in cultivation methods, cultivar selection, garden hygiene and encouraging or introducing natural enemies, should be the first line of control. If chemical controls are used, they should be used only in a minimal and highly targeted manner.

Weed Killer on the Lawn How and When to put Weed Killer on the Lawn

After mowing. Leave at least 2 days if applying liquid lawn weed killer to the whole lawn. Don’t mow for a further 3 days Mind-your-own-business ( Soleirolia soleirolii): Little response to lawn weedkillers – returf infested areas in late autumn or early spring. Each weed killer falls into a category and will help you to identify how they work. Some (systemic) weed killers are absorbed into the plant and travel down into the roots, effectively killing the weed from the inside. For complete weed control a concentrate will do as good a job as ‘ready to use’ and vice versa. Use them according to the kind of treatment required. You may have noticed that weed killers are not made of the same chemicals. A lawn weed killer is a carefully selected group of active ingredients designed to kill a certain group of creeping and broad leaved weeds. Not all weed killers will kill all your lawn weeds hence you need to use a range of active ingredients to give yourself the best chance of good weed control. We have therefore selected two groups of weed killers that offer the broadest range of active ingredients so that if one doesn’t kill a certain weed the other may do. Use one group of chemicals for ‘full lawn treatment’ and the other group for ‘spot treatment’. If you only need to ‘spot treat’ then have two different ones on hand or when one runs out buy a different one to replace it. How to use two different Weed Killer Products Lawnsmith Option 1I would not rush to apply lawn weed killer to the whole lawn in the early spring as there will be a lot of weeds that won’t surface until later on. In early spring just spot or hand weed. For a good weed kill over a broad range of weeds in your lawn try starting in May. If you need to repeat the treatment you still have plenty of time before cold weather makes it impractical. Read the label of your weed killer to make sure repeat treatments are allowed. For example, Weedol is good for only one application a year and Resolva two applications. Not all weed killers are the same. Some are designed to work on a specific species of weed whereas some are considered to be more of a general purpose weed killer. There are even differences in how each product neutralises weeds as well as a vast difference in the ingredients used to complete the task.

If you decide to use weedkillers rather than cultural control methods, here is a guide to choosing the right weedkiller for your lawns. The aim here is to target the weeds you have and use the minimum amount of product needed to carry out the control. Follow these steps: The last type is an industrial weed killer also known as “soil sterilisers”. These products are uncommon and are rarely sold in the UK. If you do come across these products, we suggest you steer clear. They are designed to kill everything in the area and will remain in soil for several years. These chemicals can also easily find their way into nearby water courses which can devastate any water-based ecosystem. Speedwell, slender ( Veronica filiformis): Little response to lawn weedkillers. Re-seed or returf affected areas of lawn.
