One of my favourite times for complete lawn weed control is in late August or September whilst there is still some warmth around. I would recommend this if you just need the one application in the year. The reason for this is: Method 2: Plants usually easily killed using one or two applications of weedkillers containing 2,4-D plus mecoprop-P or 2,4-D plus dicamba. Following spraying, do not cut grass for at least one day after treatment and ideally leave the sprayed area uncut for as long as possible

The RHS believes that avoiding pests, diseases and weeds by good practice in cultivation methods, cultivar selection, garden hygiene and encouraging or introducing natural enemies, should be the first line of control. For example, Weedol is good for only one application a year and Resolva two applications. Not all weed killers are the same. Some are designed to work on a specific species of weed whereas some are considered to be more of a general purpose weed killer. There are even differences in how each product neutralises weeds as well as a vast difference in the ingredients used to complete the task.
